The 2012 “Red Dawn” remake

Spoilers if you care
Obviously doesn’t hold a candle to the original but I’ll give them credit for knowing what kind of movie it is. There is basically no dialogue and very little character development which is perfect. They give you very obvious action movie hero tropes so you know who the characters are and care at least a little, and then it’s just action scene after action scene.
I mainly wanted to give the movie a shout out for having the balls to kill the main character with 10 minutes left in the movie and for not showing us a happy ending. The movie ends and they’re getting new recruits while the war goes on, and most of the original people are dead.

I never saw the remake but the original was a banger. The original ended a little more hopeful - as I recall there was a voiceover from the future speaking of the heroes that died fighting the invasion, with the U.S. ultimately victorious. I remember the remake mostly for the last minute switch of the villains from China to North Korea because the movie studio was afraid to piss off the Chinese.

the original is such a classic that I intentionally won't watch the remake.
in fact that's broadly a rule I follow for a lot of movies, very rarely does a remake hold up to the original

They did the same thing with the Xbox game Homefront. Didn't make any sense for that, either.
As for the Red Dawn remake, that had a lot more potential if the Wolverines were fighting against an oppressive/despotic US Gov. Would have been a more interesting story, for sure.

One was good enough for me, honestly...

I immediately wrote it off when the studio bitched out on the bad guys. It was originally supposed to be China, but they didn't want to miss out on the market, so they changed it to North Korea. The irony is that it was allowed into China anyway.

It was ok but certainly had some big problems. I'll say having it set on the west coast makes more sense than the Soviets being able to sneak into Colorado. Apparently the original enemy was supposed to be China not North Korea but the studio wanted it to do well in China so they changed it.
Josh Peck was just ok but it was weird seeing him go from his goofy role in Drake in Josh to this. Chris Hemsworth was solid for what he was given his death definitely caught me off guard for how sudden it was. Also Jeffery Dean Morgan was there as well and he was good for what little he had
