Rainbow Trout are great gamefish and can be caught using a variety of angling methods and live and dead bait. Trout are a favorite among fly fisherman but can be caught with just about any kind of pole just be ready for spectacular leaps and hard fighting once you hook them. AS for bait we have had success with a variety and half the fun as an angler is trying different things out. Remember that these fish were raised in a hatchery on pellet feed so sometimes power bait in various colors…or even colored mini-marshmallows (seriously we’ve seen it work). But live bait such as minnows, mealworms, red worms, maggots and night crawlers should also do the trick on any given day. For those that are more into artificial lures, consider using an in-line spinner or spoon lure to drive those trout crazy.

I’ve heard these don’t taste that good. Any truth to that?

I don't know about those, but we have a one acre pond stocked every winter after Thanksgiving with 150 pounds of bows and they are delicious.

It's not that expensive to have it done and it's an awesome winter time angling opportunity. They pull like a flathead, are a blast and easy to catch for kids, and taste delicious.

I'd like to see it limited to just kids for the first couple weeks.

They are not like catfish, bass and bream. You can’t fry them.

Pan sear them with butter, lemon and thyme and they are delicious.

We lived in Bull Shoals a couple of years.Did lots of Rainbow fishing in White River and in the lake.
The ones from the river tasted better to me than the ones from the lake plus the ones from the river had much firmer flesh due the current in the river.

Some people like them. They would be way down my list of preferred eating fish.
