All these guys are trying to do the things Pete did way ahead of his time! He was criticized and rideculed for basically his superior skills and understanding where the game was headed. By far, the greatest re-inventor of the game! All the other "23"'s can thank him!
NO superstar of today would take the time to teach a kid how to shoot, dribble, etc..., mail autographed pics, have his brother bring kids into the locker rooms for more autographs, meet players, coaches, etc.. but Pete did it for me as a kid in the '70's at LSU, Foxy's health club, and N.O. Jazz.
Never forget the real, the only, "23"!

We do know who the greatest 23 is, and he was mentioned in the first post, lame as it was.

MJ is good that not only is he the best 23 but he is also the best 45.

PS why did he have to have 45 when he first came back?? Had they retired his jersey or something?

FYI - Pete was "23" in College, "44" in pros (ppg in college) and "7" where he played all his eligible years! He also wore "7" for spiritual reasons, Pete avg 24 in pros without a 3pt line, Mike yes, the best pro avg 30 ppg with 3pt line, so the arguement continues....

Didn't Pete wear #7 when he was with the Jazz? What about when he finished up with the Celtics?

Yeah and MJ easily could have averaged 40+ if he had gone up against the "talent" that Pete did on a nightly basis.

Pete maravish = Allen Iverson of his era.

A volume shooter/scorer whose skills dont actually translate into wins.

Sorry you must be too young to have experienced the "Pistol" era- Nothing or nobody caused so much excitement and attention without much media at the time! The media is now the primary promoter of players!

Pete Maravich didn't have the best Left coronary artery of all the 23s out there.

Since Maravich didn't wear 23 in the pros, clearly Jordan is the best 23, but only by default. In college, P-Mac has no rival.

Yeah and you're not the least bit biased in promoting a player who, as far as I can tell, your entire Basketball World revolved around for his dozen years of college/pro ball.

His heart was bigger than his ego, and it was in the right place... wish everyone could be so blessed!
