Have any of ya'll been to this place to hunt quail? It looks quite promising.

I guess it would be fun for a business retreat but I can’t wrap my head around paying $500 for 4 hours of shooting pin raised birds you have to kick to make fly.

It's a really enjoyable hunt. Feels much more like a natural hunt than shooting pen raised birds. They release a bunch of birds throughout the year to grow the wild bird population and it's working.
It's more expensive because you get more birds. They release 100 birds per hunt. They don't just set them in spots they know to bring the dogs to later, either.
They've got my business and I'll keep going back. It's a solid operation run by a good group.

Thanks. I may give check them out. My son and I went to Thornhill in Mississippi last year and are going again next month, but I may want to give this place in Angie a try. We used to have tons of wild quail on our property, but I haven't seen any in years so I guess pen raised must be the way to go.

I’ve never understood the disparaging remarks around pen raised quail or pheasant. I’m pretty ignorant to upland game hunting in general, but once they flush, I don’t see how it’s any less challenging than a wild bird. It’s not like hunting pen raised mallards that are trained to fly to the pond you’re sitting in.
Anyway, my only experience similar to LA Bully was Bon Amis in Ville Platte. It was a blast. I especially enjoyed watching the dogs work. It’s nice going home with a bunch of quail already cleaned and packaged as well.
I will say that after the experience, I could see how Cheney shot his buddy. I would only do something like that with people I thoroughly trust with guns.

Pen raised birds don’t flush like wild birds. Completely different. I’m not knocking their business, I hope it works out for them. There are no options in Louisiana, would still be fun.

It's a good time - Mike & the crew run a great place. I have been a few times and will continue to go.
Of course there is a difference between wild quail and pen raised quail. However, there also a big difference between wild influence pen quail and the meet quail you local red-neck owns for meat/eggs.
The ones that La Bully have always seem to flush great and watching the dogs work is worth the whole visit.
For those that want "true quail" the only way that's happening is if you got to Mexico and S Texas.
Also did the Pheasant Tower Shoot last month and had a great time.

Yeah but how? I don’t understand when a dog goes on point and the bird gets flushed, how that can be any different. Again, my experience is very limited but the birds we shot were taking off in all directions like a bat out of hell. The only wild birds I’ve hunted were behind my lab that was flushing birds out of the briars, the birds didn’t seem to act any different when they flushed.

I jump them all the time in the Homochitto NF. They are faster, more powerful and much louder when they flush than pen raised birds. Also seem to always fly low and away from you whereas pen birds just kind of slowly scatter and you can pick your shots.
