Should LSU implement a policy towards Tulane...

that Texas (and maybe Texas A&M) has with Rice?
According to several people I have talked to, Texas has basically told Rice that they can't ever play a football game against LSU in Houston. If they did, Texas would drop them from their future schedules.
Not sure how accurate it is, but it speaks of the lengths that Texas might take to keep LSU from getting additional exposure in the Houston area, which is known to produce great athletes.
Maybe some of our Texas and Rice fans can back this up.
If this is true, would you care if LSU asked Tulane to stop scheduling other SEC teams, and other big name schools that compete with LSU for top ranked recruits?
I saw that Ole Miss will be playing in New Orleans in 2010 against Tulane. Alabama will play there in 2012. Texas has played Tulane in the dome in the recent past, and I thought I remember Notre Dame planning a trip down to the Dome to face the Wave.
We helped out Tulane by entering into this new series with them. Do you think it makes sense to get them to not schedule teams LSU competes with for recruits, as Texas allegedly does with Rice?

I don't think it's worth the trouble. It makes the university making the demand look petty and insecure.
If this is a real arrangement, then Texas looks pretty dumb. Is there really any danger of LSU playing Rice in Houston anyhow?

Whatever screws that other uptown university the most...I'm all for it. I have not heard about this Rice situation, but that is very interesting if true. I don't know if we could pull that off or if we would want to do so.

I do know that when big name schools like that come to the dome, non tulane fans go and watch just to see the other programs. Even Tulane fans that dont usally go go as well. Not saying its worth the trouble but I am sure some good players get to see big time programs like that in their own backyard and they never lose to Tulane so they dont excactly look bad when they come.

very interesting...but let me play devil's advocate---If ULM wouldn't have been allowed to play Bama two years ago, we would have missed out on that fun!
but from a recruiting standpoint--LSU doesn't seem to have a problem recruiting texas

I also think it makes Texas look like insecure whoremongers.
The number of recruits Texas has are so many I would think thats the reason LSU i getting their share.
Our exposure in places like Lake Charles and Shreveport make it easily accessible to Texas cities close to the border.
While LSU has little competition in Louisiana from other schools, Texas is the opposite.
Interesting thread though.
Also:
PLEASE CONSIDER THE HUNTING AND FISHING BOARD!!!
That is all

We would come across as being petty. I dont think the exposure from a rival playing tulane in the dome would be anything more than nominal anyway. The crowd would be shitty and I highly doubt any recurits from outside the new orleans area would even bother paying attention...

I have also heard that Texas will not schedule the Houston Cougars in any sport due to a problem with temporary football seating at UH a few years back.
Therefore LSU could always schedule UH in Houston, in leiu of Rice.

yea, but that was in Tuscaloosa. The point being made is the idea of a team like Bama or Ole Miss coming to play in our back yard and getting more exposure to our potential recruits.

Do other big time schools play Tulane in the dome ever?

Spqr,
When you think about it, there really is a danger to Texas IMHO. I'm sure they have this vision of thoudands of crazy LSU fans travelling to Houston and landing more fans in the stadium than Houston. That would look pretty appealing to a recruit from Houston who might be also thinking of signing with Texas. I know that I would certainly travel to Houston if LSU played there.

Even for a big name opponent the game will only draw 20,000 people, and those will all be travelling fans.

We took the top 2 players from the state of Texas this year. Both of which were from the Houston area. I don't think it matters much.

As I understand it this is exactly where we are as of now.
Texas has made it clear, by what means I'm not sure. That if RICE were to Schedule football games with LSU in Houston, then UT would drop not only RICE football but men's basketball as well from their schedule.
I know from a RICE standpoint we're sick of Texas. As a whole we'd much prefer LSU. The overall experience would be much more entertaining. Of course we realize in football we would be a sacrificial lamb. But Im sure LSU's money is just as good as Texas'.
at the very least these two should make effort to play baseball every year. I do know that at one time(early 2000's ) it was LSU that didn't want to play. But now with the LSU baseball program back up, I dont see why we couldn't.
As for football the sticking point for LSU seems to be RICEs insistence that it be a home and home and that the game be played at RICE stadium.
But with the number of LSU alum in Houston and the recruiting exposure. I think its worth it for all parties involved to at least discuss.

I do recall that, at one time, we were scheduled to play the University of Houston at their place sometime soon (or recently passed), but I'm not sure if that's still on or not.

The exposure goes beyond just sitting in the stands and watching the game. There is more expsosure in the New Orleans newspaper...more exposure on the local news regarding the game. And I would imagine that tickets to Tulane home games are cheap.
