Movie is an overall disappointment in comparison to the book, but damn Felton delivered a damned good performance.

Definitely the best of the books, IMO.

The movie just couldn’t be long enough to cover it all, sadly.

Loved the movie.
Didn’t read the book.

Of all the Harry Potter movie adaptations, Half Blood Prince pissed me off the most.

I watched the movies first before I read the series. I definitely can see how people were displeased with HBP.

In retrospect, they should have made it a two parter like they did with Deathly Hallows.

Best way imo to enjoy Harry Potter, there seems is a recurring theme with people who read the books first.

When the movie came out my younger sister asked me to take her to the midnight showing as she didn't have her driver's license yet. I decided to stay and watch it instead of driving home and then back in a couple of hours even though I had only read the first book back in 7th grade when it first came out. I loved it and it got me to read the books.

She, being a huge fan of the books, did not like it all that much.

Started releasing Thursdays.

Releases used to be Fridays, hence midnight showings.

I think Goblet of Fire is a worse adaptation, but HBP is right there with it.

We watched all 8 for Halloween this year and HBP’s tone and atmosphere is so dreary. It was a slog to get through.

I have mixed feelings about the movie. On the one hand, it’s absolutely the worst adaptation. But it’s not a bad movie by any means and I still enjoy it despite how bad an adaptation it is. And I agree, most of the cast are at their best in this movie.

The book has slowly overtaken Goblet of Fire for my favorite book of the series. It’s JK at her best.

Yep. But honestly? Bring back the midnight releases tbh. I am nostalgic for that shite in the worst way

Same.

My son and I caught The Dark Night Rises at a midnight showing.

Was wild when we came out and turned on our phones and saw all the stories about Aurora.

I'm going to agree with this take. The movie just went in a completely different direction than the book. Being my favorite book, I was disappointed when HBP hit theaters. But as it's own movie that sets up the big finale, it does a fine job of it. It sets up the horcruxes and Harry' hunt for them, as well as the eventual Snape reveal.

Goblet of Fire was pretty bad but I feel they were faithful to the book with what they adapted from it to the screen. Half Blood Prince abandoned a lot of Voldemort's backstory for cheesy teen romance and other shite that just wasn't in the book. It also abandoned what was a pretty cool fight between the Death Eater's and Dumbledore's Army inside the halls of Hogwarts for some random, no consequences battle at the Weasley's house that didn't even happen in the book.
