Lane is perfect for LSU
"I remember in the middle of the game, we were winning pretty handily, and anybody who's worked for coach [Saban] knows he's a class act when it comes to that stuff," former Alabama assistant coach and current Maryland head coach Mike Locksley said, via ESPN. "He made the decision — when he tells you to take the air out of the ball, as he likes to say, that means slow things down. We don't need to try to score. Keep the clock moving.
"Well, Lane missed that conversation on the headset, and threw a Sluggo touchdown to Gehrig Dieter, and I can remember coach on the headset saying, 'Hey man, does it make you feel any better that you're doing this? Does it get you your job back?," Locksley continued. "And I can remember Lane saying, 'No, it doesn't, but it sure feels good.' And coach went off on him after that."

Going for their throats. I love it.

So they knew they were going to let him go after 2016 on opening game?

Reminds me of Spurrier’s enthusiasm for hanging half a hundred on opponents.

Makes me think about the LSU-Ole Miss game this season: Ole Miss up 5 with 4th down at about midfield with maybe 2 minutes left. LSU offense sucks, safe bet is to punt it and hold them for the game. They go for it and convert to ice the game. Obviously would look like a stupid decision if it didn’t pan out, but he took away any possibility with that call
