Why is LSU having to bid so heavy for Lane?

Id love for Lane to come coach LSU. However, I would want this place to mean something to him. I am not saying he needs to be "one of us" but sheesh.. 13m?
My understanding is that LSU doesnt have a single other real candidate. So, you promote verge .. and this is.. "the search."
Face it, Les Miles and Nick Saban were the last two coaches that LSU actually went and did homework for.

How do you know?

That’s the going rate for a head coach at a top program these days

They’re not. They’re paying market price for a top coach

Just saw them talking about it on TV. Florida has interviewed multiple other candidates. LSU is just all in in Lane.

Because coaches today are covered with leeches that have to have their blood as well

You think Kirby at UGA cause he loves it?
Posted on 11/22/25 at 12:43 pm to Tigercowboy
It’s his Alma mater so he probably loves it more than your average coach at a school

Because it's the same amount Ole Miss and Florida are offering. Ole Miss' big booster said so

Ha! That’s what they said last time. Kind of like everyone in prison is innocent.

I think there is 13.5ish million reasons he loves it. According to the OP, if he loves it’s he should do it for 8 a year.

He did play there so yea I think he does love it
Lane went to Fresno state and almost quit the team for lack of playing time. He has no such emotional ties to LSU, as romantic as that would sound. You want him, you gotta pay

Well you definitely don't undrstand, but let's say you're understanding was correct and LSU had not a single other real candidate. You're going after a coach headed to the CFB playoff who is also being courted by an SEC team with multiple NC's in Kiffin's career and you're wondering why we are forced to bid on him? Are you a government employee?

Why does the money matter to you?

What I am saying is do you think Kirby would do it for 8 million if other schools are offering 13.5? He may want to be at UGA but UGA is paying him the going rate for a top tier head coach. Hell he is the highest paid.
Posted on 11/22/25 at 12:54 pm to Ebridg3
Because we want him and that’s what it takes to get him.

He’s the highest paid because he has two nattys and has that program in their best position in history.
He wouldn’t be commanding so much or fielding offers of that magnitude if he hadn't done what he’s done.
So the next logical question is why is Lane commanding that much when he’s never won anything of significance? I think a lot of weight is being put on the fact that it actually is harder to win at Ole Miss than, say, Georgia..which was a half-awake giant with massive support, some dalliances with success, and a fertile recruiting base before Kirby ever got there
I believe 13.5 or whatever it is for a coach is ludicrous, but that is the market price right now unfortunately for the biggest name this cycle

Leaking the dollar amount is like throwing chum in shark infested waters.
It is putting other schools on notice that this is what LSU might be offering and if another school wants to beat it the ball is in their corner.
So time to dig in deep.
The leak probably came from Lane's agent to drum up some more offers or an increase in the current offering prices.

Reporters don't know anything these days. I wouldn't put any weight behind things pundits say on TV.
