Not in all of the state, it's a top public school though.

LSUmomma,
This is not likely to be a popular observation in some quarters, but IMO West Monroe is an extraordinarily insular, racist community.
As far as football is concerned, your son would be well coached there, but there are better environments in which to raise a family.

That-a-way to stereotype. I played football at WM all throughout high school. The education there is great (there are so many classes available to take), color/racism was NEVER an issue on the football team (we were a very tight nit group), the coaches are fabulous, the kid would get great exposure, at 5'11" 215lbs.--he'll start, and playing around other division 1 prospects (more than WO) would help with getting exposure. WM would be a far better choice!

Can't go wrong with either WM or WO.

Both are solid schools, you know about WM. Coach Thomas and the boys over at WO will coach hard.

Maybe you prefer the Renwick St. area or perhaps Charmingdale?

I always thought it was hilarious seeing the black rebels run out to the throngs of confederate flags as we played them on friday night. We then proceeded to get trampled but oh well. I get the same humor of seeing the black rebels of ole miss with colonel reb jumping around waving the stars and bars or the letter m version of the stars and bars.

JJ- I was kind of joking about Bastrop being the best fit for the kid.

One poster made the statement about Bastrop losing relevence after the Katrina kids left and it just struck a nerve.

Thats because the rebel flag represents only rebel football in WM. Its everyone else who brings up this shite every year. Damn its time to let it go. We are in no way more racist than any other school in louisiana. None of our black students have a problem with our mascot. Just the out of town people looking to bitch at everything about west monroe.

I'm curious do the black students and family wave the rebel flag when the team is preparing to come on the field. When we arrived i never really saw any black people of course i was mesmerized by the sheer number of rebel flags being waved at the same time. Quite impressive.

I've seen it multiple times. My dad's senior year they wanted to ban the flag. They started a petition to keep it and the first 5 signatures were black football players, incluing the starting QB.

Also, WM is not affiliated in any way with the Confederacy, including the flag. You won't find any WM clothing with Confederate flags. If you do, it's from the Rebel Store and isn't affiliated with the school. The WM is the symbol on everything now, including flags.

I'm biased but I would say neville over the others neville is a great school and great program. players just don't get noticed at west ouachita west monroe has too much politics and unless you're a college prospect its a dog fight with 100 + kids for positions. ouachita has coaching issues. sterlington program is dying all the schools have good facilities though

You're the same age as my dad. Do you remember his senior prank? He ran a Rebel flag up Neville's flag pole, wrapped the chain around the top and greased the pole so they had to call the fire dept. to take it down.
