That Ole Miss wants Lane to coach through the playoffs and they will figure it out after that. I don't think they want to risk their first playoff in school history without their head coach - even if it means they get the brunt end of having to do a coach search slightly later than ideal in mid-January if Lane leaves
After that, he will probably take LSU or UF unless they make some huge run deep into the playoffs where he feels like he really has something brewing at Ole Miss. Basically I think this stuff dies down, no new news comes out, they keep playing, and the second they lose in the playoffs its an absolute firestorm that resolves itself in <48 hours.

This is exactly what OM is panicing about. Most of the big jobs are already open and will be staffed by the end of the playoffs and if your coach stiffs you at that time then you are completely fricked.
This is the world that the NCAA created with the f'd up calandar of ESD, transfer portal, and playoffs. There is a lot of buzz about this in the CFB admin but nothing has materialized to fix it.

the calendars are that way because of academic calendars when players have to be in school (wink, wink)

ESD is only a recent thing. Used to be NSD well after NCG and coach swaps
Portal period can be whenever they say it is although it does have some conflict with semester calandars if too late
