If the gold standard is 2 losses or less going forward, how have we fared this century?

Kudos to the Tigers for being one of only three schools to win at least 3 Natty's this century. Besides those years and several tough teams under Miles that finished with 2 losses or less, what needs to be different with this coaching hire? Different than winning just one Natty and slightly above average at best during the rest of his tenure?

2000 8–4, 5–3
2001 10–3, 5–3
2002 8–5, 5–3
2003 13–1, 7–1
2004 9–3 6–2
2005 11–2, 7–1
2006 11–2, 6–2
2007 12–2, 6–2
2008 8–5 3–5 3
2009 9–4 5–3
2010 11–2, 6–2
2011 13–1, 8–0
2012 10-3, 6-2
2013 10-3, 5-3
2014 8-5, 4-4
2015 10-3, 5-3
2016 8–4, 5–3
2017 9–4, 6–2
2018 10–3, 5–3
2019 15–0, 8–0
2020 5–5, 5–5
2021 6–7, 3–5
2022 10–4, 6–2
2023 10–3, 6–2
2024 9–4, 5–3

is a ridiculous standard that ignores both scheduling realities and our actual history as a program.

I’m sure someone will come along and accuse me of accepting mediocrity or something.. whatever. It’s dumb. The goal should be to compete for championships but if your expectation is to go 10-2 at worst every year, you’re setting yourself up for continued disappointment.

Those days are over. With NIL there will be so many teams that can field a championship team that it will be difficult to win multiple championships much less make the playoffs every other year unless they expand to 16 teams.

Why the down vote. I looked at a list and can’t find the third team the OP mentioned?

If the CFP started when Miles got hired, LSU would've been in it every year except for four..... You are dog water

I mean, we were sold on BK because he had 7 Straight 10 win seasons (5 at ND, 2 at LSU) And Les got fired for not holding that standard anymore.

People will say that “a meaningless bowl” doesn’t count,” and that they really mean a 10-2 regular season. OP made that pretty clear by specifying 2 losses instead of 10 wins.

Nope.

The first 3 years? Sure
2010-2012? Sure

08, 09, 13, 14, and 15, are all N. O.

There are rules to the playoffs

I think new coach has to make the playoffs in year 2 or 3.

Should be competing for SEC CG within 4 years

Should be in the natty or competing for one at least every 4 years

Depending on the initial success, a 8-4 or 9-3 season is okay, but not consistently. It’s still a disappointing season, but more acceptable if you’ve had recent success i.e. Tennessee, Missouri, etc

If a 3 loss team gets in this year, does that change this?

Hell if I know. I said it was unreasonable to begin with.

That said, unless/until the CFP committee grows a pair and starts truly factoring in strength of schedule (rather than giving it lip service as they do now) I don’t expect 3-loss participants to be the norm.

making a 12-16 team playoff is no more difficult than making it to an 8 team CWS in baseball and our program is able to do that every other year. The standard we should expect is to make the playoff every other year, not 1 every 10 years like we’ve done to date. Texas, Oklahoma, Bama and Georgia are SEC teams poised to meet that standard in the current era. I’d like to be in that group
