Building new house on acreage and looking for technology solutions.
Cell service is weak and need a wi-fi solution anyway so thinking about some sort of mesh or access point exterior solution.
What’s a good plan to get as much coverage around the property as possible including possible remote solar WiFi cameras to tie into home security.
Thoughts?

You will need to use something that sends signal over long range ..aimed dishes. UniFi has a great setup on much of that. You get what you pay for in that realm. You will need power at the locations to run the POE. You may be able to reach out to them directly for more guidance on building a system. Another option is the unifi reddit..

I used these. You'll need power at the remote site. Easy setup

1.5KM range

Literally plug and play to extend your network.

Awesome!
I wonder what’s the best way to solar power the remote portion?

I installed a Wavlink AX3000 Wireless Outdoor Repeater (about $200) on a 7.5 acre tract. I drilled a hole in the wall of the house to run an ethernet cable from the indoor Starlink router to the outdoor Wavlink. That one cable gives the Wavlink internet signal and power (uses POE).

I set the Wavlink as an access point, and it is blasting 5.0 and 2.4 wifi into a mobile home about 100 yards away, with plenty of signal (up to 200+ Mbps in some rooms, less in others) to stream videos.

The whole large backyard/pasture area and that house now have good wifi.

The Wavlink unit is mounted in the back of the main brick home. The signal it sends is great in all areas behind the house, but it is pretty weak on the front of the house and does not reach the whole front area.

This might be cured by mounting it higher so that the signal is not blocked/reduced by the brick house, but Wavlink recommends not putting it more than 6 to 10 feet high. That said, a popular YouTuber (From Scratch Ranch) mounted one high on a utility pole and got a heckuva signal all over his rural property. He says you can cover almost 70 acres.

There are a lot of other YouTube videos out there with rural owners installing Wavlinks and showing their setup and results.

I am no IT person. Had never even set up a wifi router, but I was able to do this fairly easily.

Most models you see have external antenna sticking out, but I got a newer model with strong internal antenna. It works fine, and it looks cleaner.

You would need a ethernet bridge to get wifi throughout the area. That would require power at each spot. We use tacticam security cameras on solar that use cellular data. They work really good.
