Does this device come with it once you subscribe to DirectTV Stream? We currently have an Apple TV. Is this a similar device?

Possibly making the switch but it looks like you only get free access to ESPN Unlimited/Disney+/Hulu if you have the Gemini device.

Just get the gemini device and dont plug it in. You still get the apps for free.

But yes, It acts just like a roku\apple tv and has it's own remote.

I'm in a similar situation and have looked into DirecTV Stream.

My understanding is that only the Disney/Hulu portion requires the Gemini. You still get full access to ESPN Unlimited without it. They are giving a $10/month credit which is the cost of 1 Gemini so it offsets that cost. Gemini comes with it's own remote and acts like a Firestick or Roku. If you have AppleTV box it will do the same thing, but I don't think DirecTV will give you access to the Disney+/Hulu features because you didn't order their device. You could include the Gemini in your order but use your Apple TV and you should still get those features, but you are paying $10/month for it. Not sure how long the $10 credit lasts.

you need the Gemini Air to get the full promotions. If they are giving you a $10 credit each month then i would recommend one. you just need one and you can watch via the app on your Roku, smart tv, etc.

I love the Gemini remote because i like having buttons for changing channels, and voice remote.

I just signed up for Directv Stream (bc of the Disney-Google fued)...

I'm using the app via Roku box connected to my LG tv. Does the Gemini Air deliver a better platform/viewing experience compared to Roku?

How do I get the Gemini Air? I've seen most people buy it off of ebay?

I'm curious about this too. I have a Samsung Smart TV and would rather just use the Samsung platform and select the DirecTV app. Unless the Gemini platform is miles better

If they’re making you pay $10 a month I don’t think it’s worth it

My parents were using their Roku and they are in their 70s and they liked pressing channel numbers and fast-forward, etc.

It’s worth it to them to hold a big remote

You guys will have to remind me, but I don’t know if quad box works without the Gemini.

I wouldn’t stress about it

I wouldn't quantify it as miles better. It has some convenience features. I have the older Osprey device (I signed up when it was AT&T TV), not the Gemini, but they are very similar in interface. The only reason I'm not on the Gemini is no ethernet connection and that they are harder to get to purchase outright.

I have used the fire tv, roku, and sony tv powered by google to access the app and the experience for me was very similar.

DIRECTV app is complete trash on Samsung interface. It’s WAY faster with Roku/apple/amazon/gemini

Thanks for the info guys. I have an Apple TV box but rarely use it. I like the convenience of using Samsung's native platform but if I have to use the Apple box I will. I feel like using a 3rd party device adds a few more clicks and moves of the cursor which can get old (first world problems). I honestly don't see myself using many features of Disney+ or Hulu, so if I switch to Direct I may just use the Apple TV.

It’s nice to scroll the guide on DTV stream. I don’t like the other services that just show you what’s on now or suggestions.
