Has NIL era killed the hero status one can achieve?

I know one of the “heroes” will always be Burrow, a grad transfer who spent two years at LSU, but most of the others that have achieved that sort of status were guys that bled P and G, and it’s evident by the former players talking to the current team and being vocal on ESPN and the like. There’s tons of guys out there that have loads of pride for LSU. The fans reacted as such.
With these guys being mercenaries, fewer of them truly give a shite about the school, and I think the fans will be quicker to turn on them. There’s hardly anybody on this squad that I feel is revered, admired, and truly respected for what they do. I just don’t feel it with them.
Even in some past disappointing seasons, I felt there were lots of guys that had a true connection to the meaning of being a Tiger.

No. I think Whit Weeks is getting paid pretty well and aside from his injury, I think most fans would say he is revered on this team.
I think the main reason why we don't feel that way about more players on this team is that the ones that were home grown are mostly underclassmen because our depth got destroyed during COVID with opt-outs, transfers, and bad recruiting. If you look down the depth chart of our team and look at the players who either start or play significant time that came here out of high school, you have:
Kyle Parker - RS Soph
Trey'Dez Green - Soph
Dashawn Spears - Soph
Ju'Juan Johnson - Soph
Harlem Berry - Frosh
Caden Durham - Soph
Weston Davis - RS Frosh
Ory Williams - RS Frosh
Carius Curne - Frosh
Paul Mubenga - RS Soph
Tyree Adams - RS Soph
Coen Echols - RS Frosh
DJ Chester - RS Soph
Davhon Keys - Soph
Ahmad Breaux - Soph
Buddy Mathis - Frosh
Dom McKinley - Soph
Gabe Reliford - Soph
DJ Pickett - Frosh
PJ Woodland - Soph
That's a ton of young talent across both sides of the ball being relied upon. There are some in this group that could become a legend.

Weeks is with the rival coach's daughter. Whatever.

NIL has killed
Don't blame the recipient. Blame the enabler.
