I collect fountain pens and have a few watches. I’ve kept the boxes they come in with the thought that if I sell them it would be good to put them back in their box. They do take up more room than I’d like in my office and my wife hates the “cluttered” look.

Do any of you save boxes like I do? If you bought a used watch or nice pen would you expect to have the original box?

I don’t have either, but videos that YouTube serves up for me include a guy that buys high end watches and he always mentions whether the seller brought the original box or not for Rolexes and such. Might make a difference on price you get if that’s your potential market.

Here's a possible solution: Get a small mover's box from Lowe's/HD, and put the original boxes in there, and stash the box in the back of your closet or in your garage. That way you have a clean presentation, but still have the original boxes and docs should you need them.

Used watches typically command a higher price if they come with the original box and papers. You can actually buy rolex boxes by themselves on ebay. So yes, they're worth something.

I enjoy collecting watches & shoes. I keep the shoes bags & boxes in a rarely used bedroom closet, and keep the watches boxes on an upper shelf in my closet…

If it's a collectible, then having the box will always increase the value and interest of other collectors.

I cannot speak to pens, but watches definitely need the box and papers. At least for anything mid-level like Omega and Rolex on up to higher end. Keep the boxes if you plan to sell or gift them. You can store them under beds or even in office cabinets.

I am shocked your wife does not have a closet with shoe boxes.
