Everyone was cheating. Woody didn't have to fire him. LSU got screwed as a result of people who think like you.

why is everyone so obsessed with getting wade back? im not pretending like bball took a huge hit when he left, but surely there are other capable coaches out there. I would think canning McMahon would be a bigger priority and then seeing who is out there.

Because he took us from literally a gutted program to winning the SEC. Tons of energy and excitement surrounded the program for the first time since the dale brown days.

I get it, I would be happy if he returned. Im still think theres other coaches that could do it though. Im not really a fan of bball outside of wanting LSU to win in all sports, however.

I think it tells you that they liked seeing a guy with a (now) career .700 winning % and who took LSU to (would have been if 2020 wasn't cancelled) 4 straight NCAA Tournaments for the first time since the late 80's/early 90's. Now, more than ever, with having to endure one of the worst stretches of LSU basketball in the last 40 years...which is pretty remarkable given the last 40 years of LSU basketball.
As to him being a "cheater", the only cheating he was (allegedly) doing was paying players. Well, unless you've been under a rock for the last 5 years or so, paying players is both "legal" and necessary.

Is there another potential HC out who is capable? Of course. But there is no guarantee he would have success at LSU. With Wade we've seen him have success AT LSU. There is no other potential HC on the market whom you can say that about. Then, for good measure, he took a historically awful program, in the same state, and made them great immediately
Of course LSU is not going to fire McMahon and hire Wade literally the week the season starts. But barring an unexpected deep NCAAT run, this will be McMahon's final season at LSU. And while it will not be much, MUCH tougher to pull Wade back to LSU now that he is at NC State, the pieces in place preventing a reunion (Tate and Woodward) are gone, and a familiar face is now the president.
I'm not saying Wade will ever coach at LSU again. But I am confident in saying Wade just earned a raise literally one game into his NC State career simply by having Woodward bounced and his former "boss" installed as school president. LSU is going to make a run at him and NC State's cost of doing business just went up significantly
