anyone done this?
about to pull the trigger on a cheap iDoing which seems to have very good reviews all over the place because the japanese make great cars and the WORST entertainment systems in the known universe.
wireless android & car play is a must; curious if anyone went this route and if paying an extra $30 or so for upgraded memory & storage is worth it?
i dont need a $2,000 stereo overhaul from crutchfield, just a nice integrated wireless carplay upgrade without having to buy a whole new car to get it.

I put one of these in my old truck, not sure if it was the brand you are talking about but they all looked the exact same at the time. It worked great for the few years i used it, but I would get the absolute highest claimed specs you can.

probably the same; the main thing is these units come integrated with the specific trim for the vehicle so you're replacing the whole console, knobs and all...not just a double-din type thing where you then go and price the trim pieces separately.

I used a different brand on my 2011 F150. Forgot what brand it was, but it was the same thing. Android OS and integrated trim piece to replace dash.
I liked it, and never really had any issues with it. A little bit of work to get it set up right (steering wheel controls, other integrations to OEM features), but it was worth it.
That was like 8 years ago though. Got rid of that truck a while back.

Joying head units are super popular on the Tacoma World forums. Probably same factory.

Between Walmart and Amazon I spent less than $250 for a HU and door speakers in my 01 Tundra that does what you want. Sounds decent enough.

the good ol' days. i grew up replacing HUs as a matter of teenage passage; it was so simple back then.
the last simple update was my gen3 4runner and about the same experience you described.
now its ridiculous to try it; system integration with everything means probably a half dozen harnesses and a bezel that is built into what we used to know as a din1 or din2 HU.
