Anybody ever hunt them? I’ve got a bunch running around and trying to hold out for a good because I plan on mounting it. The heard seems to be growing and I’ve got a good number of bucks and does on the place.

Isn't that the animal that is in Maryland and they say it's a miniature Elk basically?

Yep that's them. Got them all over Texas as well. My experience with them is that they are dominant over whitetails and they stink bad but good eating and cool critter overall. They are not afraid of water.

I shot a sika doe a few years back on New Year's Day near Rocksprings, TX. I'll always remember that hunt because there was 3-4 inches of snow on the ground, which is very rare for that area. Really fun hunt and good eatin' for sure.

That hide looks cool as hell as well.

They seem to flourish in the Chesapeake Bay Area.
While non native, they aren’t considered invasive? Mainly due to fact they aren’t really displacing native animals or negatively impacting the environment and ecosystems.
Those would be cool to have in the marshes of S LA.

Agree it would be cool, BUT Boudreaux & Thibodeaux would shoot everyone they see. Sika are native to Japan and adapt well in cold weather (Maryland). Hurricanes, hot LA summers, and gators would likely minimize their ability to survive.

I saw three last year and shot one. I Didn’t know at the time that they were growing in population out there.
Had to google what it was after I shot it

That seems like a nice one. Basically I’ve read you want to try and shoot an 8 pointer so we have been passing on the 6’s.
I know nothing about them and what to expect from free range. I texted a buddy who’s big into this stuff and he said low fence it’s shooter.
I do hear them a lot. They are vocal and pretty cool to hear.

We used to have a bunch on our old lease in Kerrville. Great eating and pretty dumb. You could damn near walk right up to them. The males stink to high hell when they rut. They lay down and piss all over themselves and roll around.

Only if they come with a 40% off F&F code.

Behind ducks, It’s the best tasting wild game IMO

Between them, axis, and the few elk I’m always hearing some wild noises out there. Can’t wait until I can buy a spot and move my arse out there.

I went and looked at 7 acres 2 weeks ago in Fredricksburg. The neighborhood is 350 acres surround by a high fence with 6 acre to 30 acre lots. Deer and Axis all over.
Wife and I have been going out that way a good bit lately and starting to look at areas we may want to buy in at some point.

Down vote isn’t for taste of sika. It’s because you have ducks as #1
