Looking at a house/camp near and was wondering what the duck hunting was like in the WMA (not Catahoula Lake). Map shows a large impoundment and a green tree area. Spent all my life hunting leased land in Terrebonne Parish. Killing 5-10 birds a year just is not cutting it anymore. I know it is public which has a lot of drawbacks, but I would like to hear more from people who have actually hunted the area.

Well then good luck. Used to be a decent area to hunt and it still has some good days but overall it is crowded now with all the surface drives. Unless you are willing to get a ticket and get in early you are going to have a hard time getting to a good spot.

I have hunted sporadically these for over 40 years. I would never put money into anything there for just ducks.

Many times more hunters than ducks. I would not try that again unless I was paid, a lot.

Its hit or miss like anywhere else but my son and his buddies have had some successful hunts over the last few years. Theres a good bit of holes and old oil rig containment levees in the woods that are good when there is water. If you plan to hunt shad lake just be prepared to have boats on top of you. Weve never hunted the green tree side we mainly stay closer to Larto.

Duck hunting is hit or miss depending on if theres any water in the sloughs in the woods. Most people hunt the WMA for deer/hog/squirrel. The whole north side of the diversion canal is an empoundment now too that holds ducks late season. Good thing about having a camp in Dewey Wills is the fishing. If the ducks aren't flying you can always run yo-yo's and jugs.

welcome to the neighborhood
The duck hunting is hit or miss. I have had some very good days in the greentree impoundment. I have had more really bad days than good days though.

If you are buying strictly to duck hunt, don’t waste your money. Unless you are willing to wake up at 2 AM and walk a hell of a long ways for mediocre hunting at best, I wouldn’t bother. The WMA is just too accessible.

There are however, some good times to be had owning a camp out there, because there are so many hunting and fishing opportunities available to you. It used to be tough to keep a camp from getting burglarized out there.
