Why should anyone care what the “buyout” is?

It’s not being paid by Louisiana tax paying residents right? And by all accounts it’s much less than $54mn.
If Scott had to go hat in hand and humbly beg for the money - he did, he got the money, and now bk is gone without costing taxpayers. Sounds like a win win? What am I missing?
I don’t know Scott but he seems like a good guy, smart, well suited for the job. No doubt he's 100% committed to LSU - long term.

We were able to fire BK on a whim. Money isn’t real for the poor people or really rich people.
We will pay for whatever coach we want.

You are not paying for it right?
Plus it’s the right thing to do?
great.. good..
ok I understand now

Because every dollar spent on buyouts is a dollar you can’t spend on future coaching staff and players. I don’t think it’s that complicated.

it's not a zero sum game. a billionaire paid the buyout, drop in the bucket for him. there's no indication it will have an effect on the ability to pay another coach or provide NIL funds for players

This is the correct answer. It’s also money that won’t get invested in facilities or in our NIL program.
In short, it negatively affects the program. Whatever dollars are spent buying out a coach are dollars that are basically set on fire. Those dollars attract nothing and gain nothing.

What? Why?
Do you know how much money LSU may or may not have / make in the future to pay for.. what?
Did you run the numbers and forecast how much it would cost LSU NOT to move on from Bk? Ticket sales, merch, etc etc etc.
Do you know how much LSU made over the last 3+ years under Bk and Scott.
Do you know how much lsu could make by going to the cfb playoffs, secg and winning a nc. How much the players could make?
The simple minded, shortsighted mindset is outdated and irrelevant.

KC Tiger, you are incorrect.

To answer your question. It ties in to the future of what you can do at lsu.
If the boosters and the AD are all on the same page and can afford to, or decide to hire a big name guy for 13mm a year then that money has to come from somewhere.
Then You have tk pay the assistants and the players.
If the buyout was 200mm for the sake of y ou r argument, then yes, LSU fans care, even though it’s not their money. We will just keep watching UN-Fun games and stands will be empty.
Money (even other folks money) is important.

Dude it’s not remotely close to 200mn? Your argument is based on an outlandish and irrelevant assumption. Try again

And then he hires another dud? What then- pretty easy spending other people’s money. He’s pretty much had a track record of hiring the wrong Football coach. He need to not anywhere close to the next hire- but keep him, so he can beg again to rally the money for the buy out.

People just want to bang the drum that it’s so much wasted money. Sunk cost fallacy. It’s wasted money sitting on a coach destroying a program and brand. BK was already being paid for a job he wasn’t doing; he could only make it worse being around the program. LSU has deeper pockets and big money boosters than they care to let on; or the boosters themselves; care to let on. The good news is; the silent benefactors are willing to pull the trigger quick to fix a problem. It should actually make people happy that we have a billionaire willing to do this rather than the money dry up bc they don’t believe in LSU anymore

It’s his job dude. He’s the AD.
Who is better suited at LSU, right now, to perform the task?
BTW, doesn’t the BoS have a say. They have to sign off on the hire and contract right?
This Woodward hate is weird. Maybe we have a bunch of espn / Stephen A bots this go round?

KC Tiger, you are incorrect.
Would enjoy being educated on what part(s) of my post are incorrect. For your convenience I have reposted it in its entirety (see below). I look forward to your critique.

This part is incorrect.
The money was raised specifically for Kelly’s buyout. It wouldn’t have otherwise been used for NIL. One very very rich donor put up the money. That same donor, and others, can also put up money for coaches and NIL. Understand?
We don’t have a finite budget that we dipped into to buy out Kelly. It doesn’t work that way

Cuz, chicken strips are about to be $50 for a caniac.

Your entire premise is incorrect, KC.
This is not a binary, zero sum, finite world. sorry to disappoint.

The money would’ve been lit on fire regardless if spent on NIL with Kelly as coach.

You said “negatively affects the program”? Well does losing to Vandy and getting absolutely embarrassed by Aggie at home negatively affect the program?

You have no way of knowing that. Some boosters (in BK’s case 1) were so disgusted they ponied up the buyout. The same booster may not have given anything towards a future staff and players.
