I played Copper Mill about a month ago and enjoyed it. I haven’t played The Island in a couple years. Those that have played both recently, which one would you recommend?

Personally I'd prefer The Island.. Copper is fun but I feel like The Island is just a better overall option

Really depends on where you are driving to after the round and what time you would be finished.

I’m driving back to BR, so that doesn’t really matter. I’m teeing off around 9:30, so finish around 1:00

Sounds like a no-brainer. Go play the Island.

We played the Island a month or so ago. It was in phenomenal shape.

The beer is dang near Tiger Stadium price though.

Sounds like The Island it is! I’m just getting back in to playing, and I’m a high handicapper. I booked a solo tee time, hopefully it stays solo.

2,10 and 11 are unfriendly. Try not to get frustrated on these.

Thanks for the heads up. The only reason I was leaning copper mill, was because I’m a lefty and I still have a bad slice (that I’m working on with lessons).

Copper Mills fairways seem to open up left, so I can play my slice a little more lol.

I’ve taken 2 lessons though, so it’s getting better.

The Island if you want a challenge and warm up facilities.

Copper if you want an easier round and an easy opening set of holes to get warmed up on.

LSU off weekend and decent weather on a Friday at a semi-private course you are likely to get paired with tbree others. Just explain you are a high cap, keep up pace of play, don’t spend too much time looking for balls, taking more than one practice swing, waiting to tee off, etc. pick up after double/triple depending on where you are on the hole.

Thanks for tips! As of now there are still a ton of tee times still open, so hopefully it won’t be too bad. I usually play pretty fast when I play solo. It usually takes me around 3 hours and 15 minutes to play a round. I think I have a pretty good pace.

Played the Island on Saturday, only got 9 holes in before the rain. It was in good shape and greens are fast. Copper Mill is very busy, hard to get in especially as a solo.

Yeah, it seemed like they stay busy. I had a 7:45 tee time when I played there a few weeks ago, and luckily the marshal let me slide in as a solo.

I think CM has a tournament Saturday anyway. I just talked to a vendor that is playing in it.

You won’t be finished for one if you tee off at 9:30. I’d plan for pulling out of the parking lot at two, if not close to it. Still should be mostly fine on the bridge but expect some traffic for sure.

Island is definitely better conditions and overall course than copper. A lot of people like Copper but I can’t seem to understand it. Course is getting there but the conditions are still crap, especially for the price. Tee boxes are horrendous, it drains poorly so the fairways get torn up, the edges of the course are mostly hard pan, etc. If you’re in Zachary it’s beaver or bust.

Fennwood or Clark are also options if you’re in Zachary.

I finished at 12:50. Shot a 103, it was my best round since I started playing again. My goal was under 105, so I’m happy. I par’d 3 par 3s.

I started taking lessons this month and they’ve seemed to help. My last round was 114.
