Anybody have any experience with towable ATV spreaders?

Not the run of the mill hitch mounted, but one like the King Kutter?

Since we are in the era of CWD with no stationary feeders, I’m exploring time saving options for food plot maintenance with a quick turn around.

I made it happen this year, but it was close.

We use a ground-druven one like in your link, but with a poly hopper. One less thing to rust. Wash the whole thing with soap and water after use, let dry, then coat in WD40.

Im replacing a couple hundred dollars worth of parts and hardware right now on my 3pt spreader because I neglected to do this.

Fertilizer is no joke, it will destroy your equipment.

We have used that exact one at our camp for a few years. We pull it behind our UTV, no complaints so far.

There is some rust on the spin plate, we clean it thoroughly after using but the chemicals in the fertilizer are pretty strong.

My stepson has one with a plastic hopper. It works well.I thought he would have trouble with it turning over but he hasn’t.I think you have to go slower than a 3 pt tractor spreader.

Those work on smooth ground but if you have rough roads/plots then the mounted version works better.

I bought this recently and it is awesome. Not towable but I can’t stand the towable because they bounce around. Planted 6 acres without a problem. Spreader on front and harrow in back of side by side. All aluminum.

Mine is on its last leg.its same design but is on a 3 point hitch. Grease the yokes and the gear box before every use. If you broadcast fertilizer wash it thoroughly with diesel and put burnt motor oil in the bottom of the hopper. Mine is 19 years old and that’s how it’s lasted this long. The drive line on it has bore a large hole around the bottom of the hopper so much that seed and fertilizer will fall through the bottom. Agri-Supply has an 800 lb version of the one I have and probably going to go with that one. I prefer 3 point hitch ones because you can’t back up one that you pull behind

We wash with soap and water and spray down with Hydraulic fluid. I think so long as you lube it up good after use with some type of anticorrosion solvent, you'll be good.

I like king kutter products, but I would highly recommend a poly hopper. Then you only have to worry about spin plate and veins......that are stainless.

I will. It’s all aluminum and stainless. Of course I will rinse it when done
