I drive a 2022 gmc canyon. 3.6 LT engine. Max tow 7000lbs. Camper top makes truck a slight heavier.

How big of a boat can I pull out of the water comfortably?

Looking for a used boat but not interested in upgrading truck. Looking for a boat that can get around Vermilion Bay, Big Lake and Sam Rayburn.

I'm guessing my truck can pull between 4000 lbs and 5000 lbs out of the water comfortably...but how does that weight convert into length?

Is there a conversion chart?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on style. But about any 20' or less regular center console bay boat or bass boat will work fine.

Must manufacturers will list weight.

Even lighter if you go Aluminum.

Me personally- big lake, TB, Rayburn- a 20' aluminum with a padded hull with a smooth ride is a great rig.

I upgraded to an 18' Xpress with the Hyperlift last year. Unbelievable ride quality compared to my mod V aluminum rig I had forever. Only wish is that my boat was a center console. But its an amazing rig.

This is strictly a traction problem, nothing else, and will vary dramatically based on the individual boat ramp.

Does the truck have a limited slip or locking rear diff? 4x4?

No idea but, I can remember when those first came out passing Sammy Faulk pulling his Kenner 23V down Nelson rd. In the Left lane .
I’m sure he was making 35 mph and came from Sabine that day. If he could pull a 23v out at the burnt out bridge ramp you should have no problem with a 22’ bayboat.

Yep. My BIL has to air his tires down at one ramp he always uses because he will just spin his tires with the weird angle they have. It's the only launch his truck has issue with.

my favorite is the local public ramp the city spent so much money on at Prien Lake Park. It has almost zero slope. Every vehicle has back tires in the water to launch anything. The spin outs when pulling out of the water a fun to watch. Several trucks have been dunked there already.

To the OP, that truck should pull any 21-22' bay boat just fine.

Engineer who stamped those plans should have had it revoked. Your PJ rep told me it was da bess ramp and he had no problem using it, he doesn’t have a boat either.

Try to find a 21-22 ft bay boat that’s on the lighter side if your budget allows. Blazer bay, Blue Wave, and, Pathfinder are a few that come to mind that are light for their size. Nautic Star also makes a 21 footer that is light but not their 22 footer.
