Figure this is going to get some Oscar buzz once it drops in theaters in November/December. For folks who have read the book, it's the movie based on Maggie O'Farrell's "Hamnet".

Paul Mescal, Jessie Buckley, Emily Watson, Joe Alwyn are all part of the cast.

I just don't care for this guy. Hard to buy he's Shakespeare.

I mean he's playing a younger Shakespeare from around the age of 20 to mid-30s (assuming they're covering the content in the book). Aside from the hairline, he's not that far off. The book was fantastic though.

I just think he's not a great actor. Maybe he pulls it off. We'll see.

A fictional account of Shakespeare's son? That seems strange, but interesting.

I have not. I'll give it a good. He was bad in Gladiator II

I don't know that I'd use that turd of a movie as a good gauge for anyone's acting abilities.

He was fantastic in Normal People (Hulu series) as well.

Yeah but he was really bad. Like it was his 1st time acting.
I'll give the other suggestions a shot.

Since the Academy of Arts & Science has decided that a movie can't be considered for an Academy "Oscar" Award if it doesn't have a widely diverse cast, will they make an exception (and look like the scurrilous hypocrites they are) since this has, on appearances, an all-white cast?

They'll likely meet the requirement with female cast members. The storyline also has a strong focus on Shakespeare's family. And it's directed by a Chinese-born, female director and has multiple female producers.

She was great as the crazy arse nurse in Fargo as well. Hoping this gets her more visibility, think she's a quality actress.

They didn’t make any exceptions to give Oppenheimer 7 Academy Awards. Why would they need to do it for Hamnet?

The assumption is it has to be non-white folks in front of the screen. There's a ton of ways to meet the diversity requirement and it includes women.

Since they left so many loopholes, seems like the only reason that we get a black Anne Boleyn is strictly an agenda on the part of the producer.

So basically the 'rules' have no teeth if you pad the staff with women and people who say, "can you repeat that?"

This is a good point.
