when it came to sports - when blue collar types could afford to attend a game or two. No longer, salaries are beyond insane - at all levels of personnel - which began the strained relationship on a collegiate level. Add to this the travel ball circuit and the expenses that comes with - leaving hopes aside!

Now we have NIL - full tilt - and the student athlete is a vestige of yesterdays. Fans - right or wrong - believe they are footing some of this insanity...

It is no wonder HCs are being shat canned at mid-season and we will see more of this as patience is no longer a variable in today's game....with staff, certainly and a growing angst with the athletes....which are not the ingredients for happy campers

IMO, a big player today is the volume of media and recruit rankings.

For example, as kid I would get up on the Lord's Day, find 50 cents, ride my bike down to the newspaper machine and get a copy of the Sunday Advocate (I only took one out). It had about three LSU beat writers. The local TV stations would usually show about 5 minutes on LSU football each night. And there would be the coaches show. That was about 90% of the media coverage.

Today, there are like ten different pod casts covering LSU, another dozen national pundits, every game is broadcast and can be re-watched in its entirety.

Recruiting rankings give us a pretty good idea of the quality of talent on hand.

All of this to say, fans are better informed than ever before and have avenues to express their opinions more so than ever before. So things happen faster now.

I hate to say it but amateurism is dead and money drives everything. Gone are the days when you could root for Ol' State U and be proud of the actions of 18-21 year olds who were playing for just the sake of the game.

I remember, rising early, walking to Heberts and getting the Advocate - one color photo, front page, and a host of black and whites with a dash showing the football.

Dan Hardesty was one of my people

The number 1 reason for shitcanning coaches midseason now it the ESD. Programs need to show recruits and Portal candidates that they have a plan at least. With Feb NSD you could shitcan a coach and staff after the season and have a whole new staff in place.

The game that we all grew up loving is imploding from within.

It’s only a matter of time when it gets bad enough that people start turning away in droves.

The sport of college football is nothing but a major money grab, and getting worse.

Head Coaches making $10 mil + a yr
DC’s & OC’s making $2 mil plus
Position coaches making $750K +
Elite QB’s making $2 mil plus
Starters all making 6 figures

Players going to the school offering the most $$ rather than what’s in their heart.

Meanwhile ticket prices going up
Donations to get tickets going up
Schools begging for NIL donations.
Parking prices going up.

ESPN announcing that they are exploring charging for streaming subscriptions to watch college football games in the future.

At some point, fans are going to get fed up with it all. I can’t tell you when, but I can tell you that most people’s emotional attachment is getting weaker as every year passes.

Once Tiger Stadium became corporate it pushed out so many that made Tiger Stadium what it was 20 years ago and then in house fighting because of entitlement behavior because of money. I'm not Blue Collar, but I miss that Cajun Blue Collar mentality in Death Valley

The Morning Advocate has some many color pictures and great columns on the game. We would always go get a paper at the gas station, for a quarter as I recall, after getting Beignets before returning home. Great memories.
