James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Flops on HBO Max: Trails Black Adam, Marvel

Matt McGloin / Thursday, October 16, 2025 - 10:30PM

Nielsen’s data confirms what many suspected that James Gunn’s Superman didn’t fly high on HBO Max.

The film generated 513 million minutes of viewing over its first three days on the platform, ranking #4 on the Movies chart and failing to break into Nielsen’s overall Top 10.

You have evidence that the posted numbers aren't real? Please, post them.

Nielsen’s data confirms

He KNOWS what Nielsen officially releases.

How would you or this "publication" know it's a flop? Do you know Zaslav personally? Has he told you where they expected the numbers to be after 3 days? If so, give us more details please. Will he sell to Paramount, Netflix, Apple? What's he like in real life? TIA

I did, actually. Can you update and give us an actual apples to apples comparison? TIA

In comparison, Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World started with 750 million minutes over four days, and Thunderbolts hit 702 million minutes in five, both of which made the Nielsen overall and movies charts

I've said many times I thought it was weak. I much prefer MOS. But this obsession with some on this board that it's a huge flop is amusing to me. No one other than the studio knows anything. Definitely not some rag named cosmic news lol

Maybe they are tired of mass produced comic shows. Jessica Jones and Arrow were done right.

Take that up with audiences. They're the ones that keep showing up to these films. I assure you that Spider-Man and Avengers will both make over 1.5 billion next year.

I thought it was campy, and he didn't appear as a the unbeatable hero, but then again I turned it off half way though.

Oh, so NOW you trust the numbers, once you see a flaw in how the stats are unpacked.
