Not only is he a hell of a guitar maker, but he's garnered hundreds of awards for his playing at various musical meet-ups around the country.
He's also performed at Carnegie Hall, the Smithsonian Institute and during the 1992 Presidential Inauguration. In 1995 he was awarded the National Heritage Fellowship Award in recognition of his guitar making ability at the White House.
Pretty heady stuff for a good old country boy.
