William M. Hammack, a New Orleans businessman and political donor, is suing state senator and mayoral candidate Royce Duplessis, political strategist Tyronne B. Walker, and social justice advocate Gary Chambers, Jr., for defamation.
The lawsuit centers around an email Hammack accidentally sent to Duplessis in August. Hammack claims he was actually trying to send a message to his lawyer about a political action committee that supports Moreno, but sent it to Duplessis by mistake. During last month's mayoral debate on WWL,

Summary?
In the email, Hammack accused one of Duplessis' staffers of calling Moreno a "white devil."
"Mr. Hammack did not fabricate the statement; rather, he was confidentially relaying to his attorney what was told to him by an individual who heard the Duplessis campaign senior strategist, Tyrone B. Walker, make the statement to a group of well-regarded African American businessmen in an open, public setting," the suit states.
After realizing he sent the email to Duplessis by mistake, Hammack said he immediately asked Duplessis—a licensed attorney—to delete it, citing Louisiana legal ethics rules that require a lawyer to delete inadvertently received confidential communication.
But according to Hammack’s suit, Duplessis and his team refused, shared the email publicly and used it to attack him online and in the media. The suit claims Chambers commented on and distributed the content.
"The actions of the Defendants exposed the email to more than 1.5 million potential viewers or readers," the suit claims.
Hammack accuses the group of using the email to stoke racial tensions and damage Moreno’s campaign.
