Stop Rate is Elite

ESPN released the mid-season stop rate rankings. Essentially it just measures how much does a defense get a stop. Forcing a punt, getting a turnover, or stopping them on 4th down all count towards your stop rate. IMO this is the currency of how to measure a good defense. Pass YPG, Rush YPG, Scoring, all those stats matter, but getting off the field on 3rd down is what truly matters in each game.
LSU is 4th in the country at 80%. That'll keep you in almost every game you play. LSU is in the conversation with Ohio State, Texas, and OU. The caveat is that LSU has played 2 of the worst offenses in the SEC in Florida and SC, but still, it looks like LSU does have a top 15 defense in college football this year.
For reference, LSU was ranked 79 in 2024

Defense is elite. Just need a average offense to stay on the field and keep the D fresh.

Seriously, it's not even about scoring offense, just extend drives. Move the ball and chew up some clock. Yeah it'd be nice to score 35 points a game, but realistically, just get to some 3rd and short situations and have a play ready to get 3 or 4 yards. Shouldn't be that hard.

SP+, which is a model that accounts for strength of opponents, has us as the #1 defense in the country. A bit better than top 15.

Not ready to crown the defense as elite. They are very good and definitely need help from the offense to sustain drives and keep them fresh. Playing too many snaps right now can lead to fatigue and wearing down at the end of the season. The next 3 games will reveal a lot about this team and defense.

I see this as our primary problem. Giving the other team way too many shots. And offense cannot stay on the field long enough to get lucky.

62 , somehow the offense will still manage not more than 20 points

Yet no LSU defender is on their top 10 defensive players at this point in the year

Correct. We need to start sustaining drives offensively eating clock which will only make the defense better. The less snaps/drives the defense is on the field the less opportunities the opposing offense will have to to break through which will make the defense appear more dominant. Any dominant defense will get scored on the more opportunities the offense has. If we can start sustaining more drives and eating more clock it will help tremendously in keeping the defense fresh and dominant as the season goes on.

baseballification of football stats continues....
but for real thats cool and I think our defense can keep us in most games. I just hope that our offense have fewer 3 and outs because any defense is gonna be gassed after being on the field the entire game

A young OL + an injured Nuss to start the season. Consider me bullish on the offense.

No doubt. I'm anxious to see how many from the defense get drafted next year...

definitely feel a little better after the last game, hope they can continue moving forward. This season is still wide open for us and there really isnt a team that looks like they will dominate their way through the postseason, besides OSU and Indiana ( that feels weird )

Should be at least:
Payton
Pyburn
Perkins
Whit
Delane (1st round LOCK)
I'd bet Cooley and Haulcy get close to a late round as well. Gooden might just be too undersized for NFL teams to go in on, but if he stays healthy, he'd probably be given a late round pick as well.

In a turn-based game, touchdowns are meaningless without being paired with a stop.
A TD + a stop is a true “score”
