A tell on historical movies / TV shows is how the characters have good teeth

Watching a western recently and everyone had straight, white teeth.
Maybe historical productions with British actors are the only ones who can achieve this level of accuracy…

I know cavities weren't common up until recently because no one could afford sugar and sweets.
People brushed going back to Roman times but used dufferent things. One thing i noticed from nuseums was that teeth aren't as bad as you think.

Arent there recorded documents from natives commenting on how poor western settlers hygiene was?
I know the japanese thought the european traders were savages lol due to their body odor and poor dentition.
