There’s really not much info out there for me.

Son had an expedited birth with one violent push and this COULD be the reason but no one knows.

However, he was a lethargic child until, he saw his cousin whom he admires playing quarterback for a middle school here in town.

All of a sudden he gets into college football and SEC mostly and wants to play. We let him after a physical.

However, I’ve seen his teammates bulk up since 8u and we are now into 10u.

He does pushups every day and I conveyor-belt-feed him pbj’s and protein.

His lower body is very well built, but upper body cannot keep up.

Cannot tie shoes or write well and doctor says this is his lot in life.

He can ride a bike and throw a football and catch one. However, he cannot catch baseball with a mitt. It’s interesting.

Heart of gold and does not quit.

I am trying everything. OT, spirometer etc.

Anyone experiencing this?

You can see that 58 blew up as he was same size as son last year. But son stays same build upper body while lower body continues to develop.

Kids don't all develop at the same rate. You can't help but make comparisons to the other kids you see but it doesn't mean that much.

I hear you. But after two years of observation, the dx is there and they say upper body may not develop, but that some will. His siblings are built like little body builders. All three tall like mom and dad.

He’s 10 dude. Boys are all over the map when it comes to growth. I was still growing well into college and couldn’t put on mass until early 20s.

See what happens after puberty.

Until then relax and let him learn technique while all the other big kids are relying on their size.

Thank you.

It’s not a death sentence, either and I want to admit that. I call on ortho clinics and see way worse.

It’s still hard, though. I feel like it’s my job to worry like no one else will. That may be wrong.

But anyone with experience in this, I’d like to hear.

I have two kids. The older one has dyslexia, dyspraxia, motor coordination disorder etc. Took a very long time to get the diagnosis because they, also, have a high IQ. Pushed them hard before I knew, which was not helpful. Super disheartening to watch your child not be able to do the things they want, struggle with what comes naturally to others, and worry for their future. But !!! Now that my child is in their 30s, I see that they're doing fine. Looking back, I wish I had invested all that worry and stress into helping them find work arounds, exploring everything possible until they hit their stride, etc... it was bull that I kept fighting reality instead of accepting the limitations with a positive, even comical, attitude and looking for every way to have their back, to encourage them, and not make the problems the focus.
Your boy is 10, playing football... that's what my younger one does. His team is all over the place physically...some of those guys are late bloomers, some early, many on target. The team is a team though and even the boys who don't start or get much field time get something out of pushing themselves and hanging with the guys.
Maybe your boy can learn to kick, running back, or transition to track since he has good legs...but if not, there's plenty he will be good at. Gotta keep exploring, gotta have his back.
For Football
Put my boy on vitamins, really good variety pack sold in a canister with each pack wrapped for the day.
Do protein powder w/ a frozen banana, peanut butter, full fat milk, coco powder, honey as a shake everyday. Used to add yogurt or ice cream etc for the calories but now we do way more food... so much meat and potatoes/pasta/ etc.
He eats what used to feed a family of four. The amount of calories they need is huge but you do not want him to drop weight...he can't grow or put on the gains without enough protein heavy calories. Some of his team are taking creatine but it's not for him.
Your kid is going to find those things he excels at, help him to have a sort of lighthearted devil may care attitude to imperfections and always have his back.

This is great info. Thank you.

I’m still trying to beat the dx. Asking him to pushups, sit-ups and pull ups assisted.

I cannot just quit on him.
I like the work arounds you mentioned.

And it’s odd that he can toss and catch a football but a glove and baseball are so hard. We try and try and he gets discouraged.

Loves contact and can stay with blocks as a tackle.

While slight, he plays NT and relies on swim tech and get by every game.
