Since I’ve bitched and complaining enough for one fricking week, I wanted to add this I am extremely happy with what I’m seeing on defense with Coach Baker. LSU reputation throughout his history has been built on hard hitting attacking style defenses and that seems to be the only style that really work for us. Coach Baker has brought that back. They play hard every play, are aggressive, and hit people like we expect them to do in a LSU uniform.

The Ole Miss game sucked but they still caused multiple turnovers and had some good stops and only allowed 7 points in the second half. The were obviously gassed as anyone would be when on the field for almost 100 plays, but kept us in the game.

But is Breiden Fehoko ok with it?

That’s all that matters.

Defense had many 3 and outs but Nuss did nothing with them until they got tired.

I love Baker, but I think we need to see what happens rest of the season before we crown him. Defensively we have the guys. 2 weeks ago I wanted him to be HC-in waiting and said we could NOT lose him. Last week was worrisome

Last year he had such little talent. He over performed often, then a running QB who can’t pass would torch us, and he had no idea how to defend it. Fast forward to this year, our first actual dual threat QB did not go well…we played 4 games of blitzing and chaos and leaving guys on islands. We played the first quarter that way against Ole Miss then got so soft. Not to mention OM played 3 WRs all game and we had 3 LBers on the field for 98% of the game. Perkins didn’t spy nor did he blitz, he was in coverage all game…that is actually horrible if people are being honest.

Maybe it was the amount of plays and our guys wearing down so he tried to conserve them…but they got 480 yards and 400 of that was 2nd-4thQ. You can see a huge change in playcalling. Haulcy made an elite individual play. Woodland the same thing. Those 2 plays could have made it a blowout. Kiffin ran CIRCLES around him.

We didn’t deserve to win, but we had a chance somehow. We needed a stop to get the ball back…and we essentially got torched. 5 minutes left in the game and they never passed until the last play. Explain how we are playing a safety at 15 yards on 4th and 2 with the game on the line? Then we are so confused about our assignment in man coverage a dude torches us for the 6th time from just running to the flat…and he coaches LBers

Between Sellers, Green, Reed, Simpson, Pavia, Mateer…we are actually gonna find out who Baker is. Right now 4 of those are top 10 in Heisman odds. I hope he is who we think he is, but he has to be better.

480 yards, 10/18 combined for 3rd and 4th downs, 5 of which over 8 yards…with our offense that is not good enough. Period

They've played well for the most part. Baker still needs to demonstrate that he can stop a running QB, and there are several left on the schedule.

Need to have better gap integrity in the run and pass game when facing mobile QBs. And need to ensure we aren't being out flanked. Can't give up easy plays/scores.

People can point out the 3rd & 14 conversion and the roughing the passer penalty but the defense did more than enough to win that game. The offense could do nothing with the opportunities the defense gave them.

Baker is very good but we have given him maybe too much love this season. His game plan against Ole Miss was questionable and his albatross of a running QB followed him again this season. Our next game will be a huge test for him.

The D did about as much in 2024. They were ok, but not elite.

Baker is terrified of running QBs and goes into the most passive conservative shell. He was so much more worried about what Kiffin and Chambliss were doing than implementing our will. A great defense dictates what the offense does. A good defense is able to adjust and stop what the offense does. When you just let them shred you for 75% of the game…idk what that is besides not good

He didn’t have a great game. Even at the end, we had a shot if we don’t leave their go-to target so open he had his own zip code.

This, and the worst part was that Kiffen essentially ran the same 4-5 plays over and over and over and we still couldn't stop them in that zone look. It was like a high school jamboree game plan at the end and we looked stupid. Baker essentially schemed Perkins out of the game AGAIN

Yes sir. One of the very few bright spots on this team.

I'm very happy with the defense but I will say the talks of it being "elite" feels like a bit much. It's a solid squad who is playing well. But the only offense we've seen with a real pulse still put up 480 yards.

I know, I know. They were on the field for a long time etc. etc. But elite defenses just get it done and that last series for Ole Miss felt like the D had given up.
