Peaky Blinders creator and writer Steven Knight is making good on his many teases that the story of the Shelby family would not end with the original TV series’ sixth season, nor the upcoming feature film. To wit: Peaky Blinders will return to television in the form of two new six-part hourlong sequel series, by the order of Netflix and the BBC. Original Peaky star Cillian Murphy is an executive producer, as is Knight.

The sequels will follow on from the Peaky Blinders movie, which is currently in post-production and is expected to be released next year.

Timing and casting for the series, which will tell the story of a new generation of our beloved Birmingham clan, are to be determined. BBC One will air it in the UK and Netflix globally.

quote:

The logline for the upcoming series reads: “Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel. In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

Took one response to get to “I hope there aren’t too many black people.”

There shouldn't be any, but knowing Netflix half of the cast will be.

There was like one guy in the original series (and he was Afro-Caribbean which was actually pretty accurate) . Y’all will straight up manufacture rage over some shite that really doesn’t matter.

Also, Birmingham demographics in the 1950s:

quote:

Estimates vary for population sizes', in 1958 the official estimate by the Home Office of individual groups for Birmingham's 'coloured' population was around 20,000 Afro-Caribbeans, 7,000 Pakistanis, 2,000 Indians and 450 West Africans roughly,[15] which is around the same total amount given for the 1961 estimates by Philip Jones.[16]

I love peaky blinders but it’s literally a trope at this point for the show. They had multiple blacks in a show set in 1920s Birmingham. That’s preposterous still a good show btw

Did you think you were watching the actual 1920s or did you know it was a tv show before you saw a few too many black people?

There was Isiah and his dad, so 1.5 blacks.

I can't think of any others.

Wtf do yall expect? 13% of the population gets into 40% of roles just to spite whitey. Itd be one thing if they were better actors.

Nobody complains about pro sports having blacks. We know they're more athletic.

Imagine forcing nba to have 40% white players instead of the 17 they currently have, and then calling anyone who disagrees racist.

Yea centers are usually tall dark and strong but we are re imagining the position and hiring a short skinny white boy. Dont stop being a fan of our team though, it will show your true bigotry.

lots of extras in the background. It doesn’t bother me it makes me laugh because of the absurdity but it does take me out of the show. Ruins the immersion imo.

I went ahead and crunched these numbers and according to the 1921 census of Birmingham that’s a whopping 0.02% of the population of African descent. Again, doesn’t bother me in reality, I’ve watched every episode of peaky blinders and will continue to do so in the future, I love it, but we don’t have to pretend it’s not a little silly the shoe horning in of token minorities in certain roles.

Girl bosses everywhere, transgendered minorities running Birmingham. Tommy Shelby is running scared.
