I've been playing golf off and on for the last 15 years and have never took it very seriously. However, I have recently gotten back into pretty heavily due to my son taking interest. It has been so much fun playing with him.

At any rate, I played the front 9 holes yesterday and was feeling amazing. The back 9 was getting crowded so I decided to just play the front 9 again. Played hole 1 and felt awesome. Went to tee off on hole 2 (par 3) and suddenly it was like I never hit a golf ball before with an iron as I sent the first attempt straight into the trees. There wasn't anyone behind me, so hit a few more and all of them went in the trees. Hard hard slice (which I never do). I couldn't get over what was happening, so I packed it up and went to the range to try and figure it out. Still couldn't get my swing back to normal after hacking away for a while. At that point, I decided it would be best to just hang it up for the day and go home.

This ever happen to anyone? It has NEVER happened to me before and I'm pretty concerned about it.

Going back out this afternoon with my son, so hopefully I can hit a ball!

Yep. Once it goes it really starts to mess with your head. Happened to me on Thursday. Been through it before so knew just to chalk it up to a bad day and forget about it. Went out Friday and was back to normal.

I need to learn to be mentally tough enough to overcome and correct that mid-round, but that's why I'm just an amateur hack.

I'm a 1 handicap and can say that this does happen on occasion. One bad shot on hole 12 can get you second guessing for the rest of the round and can carry over for a few rounds after that. On the flip side, I can be hitting it like garbage and one great swing can also have a positive effect. Funny how that confidence thing can mess with your brain.

O yea- I’m not good enough to correct it mid round. Not sure what it is. It’s weird mental block

I had this happen back during the summer on the driving range 10 mins before my tee time. Went from flushing everything to literally topping the next 20 balls with any club. Straight up wiffed a 3wood. Only solution I could come up with was to take a couple practice swings purposely hitting the ground fat as I could. Needless to say it didn’t help because I had zero confidence once I got to the first Tee.

When that happens I start over with half swings and pitches and then easey way into a full swing.

Happens to me all the time. I have at least 30 different swing thoughts (no lie; they’re listed on my phone) that I can choose from. None of them last the whole round. So I have to decide when to “pull the pitcher” and put in the relief guy.

Oh yes, it definitely happens. When you're on your game, it feels like you'll never lose it, and when you're off, it feels like you'll never get it back.

When that happens to me, I go back to the basics: checking my grip, alignment, ball position, takeaway, etc. Sometimes, it's as simple as a small tweak that’s just slightly off at the time.

Yep. It's why I have two swings. One is my normal one that feels natural. The other is very one plane feeling - upright and rigid.

When the first one tanks mid round, I go to the other one. Don't hit it as far, but I can still hit it and try and salvage the round. Golf be like that.
