Not doing the all inclusive thing. Renting a house in Playa Petrero on the Pacific coast. Don’t really have any solid plans other than sight seeing and exploring the area. The house is right next to the beach and within walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Anyone ever been to this area?

The Gold Coast!

You will be fine on the economy, lots of good places to eat on and around the beach.

My favorite thing to do in Costa Rica is to go whitewater rafting on the Rio Reventazon.

Wife and I went there the Mardi Gras year before last, Playa Petrero area is great.

There is camp area where you can do a horse backing riding/zip line/ 80 meter water slide/mud bath/waterfall package (lunch included). We booked through the hotel but I'm sure its online.

Don't get to close to the monkeys in the trees they will throw shite at you.

Do you mean Potrero?

If so, Ive been to Flamingo 2 times. The marina area is nice. JPs Sportsbar is great for some sports, beer, food, and community at night. The owner is a friendly retired American and it was a good atmosphere. The beach at Portrero is ok, but Flamingo is nicer so maybe head over there for a day. Plenty of good food around. Lots of good tours around, maybe head out on a charter or cruise from marina too.
