Sinclair then laid out a list of demands for Kimmel to meet before they will lift the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its ABC stations.
quote:
The first is for there to be "formal discussions" held with ABC "regarding the network's commitment to professionalism and accountability."
It also asked for Kimmel to "issue a direct apology to the Kirk family" and for him to make a "meaningful personal donation to the Kirk Family and Turning Point USA," Kirk's nonprofit that advocates for conservative politics on high school, college and university campuses.
quote:
Sinclair ended the press release noting that "regardless of ABC's plans for the future of the program," it won't return Jimmy Kimmel Live! to air until it is "confident that appropriate steps have been taken to uphold the standards expected of a national broadcast platform."

All bullshite so that they can show the FCC and Trump how far they'll go to get in their good favor. When it came to Kimmel, Nexstar got in the government arse kissing line before Sinclair, so they have to foster as much fake outrage as they can muster.

I remember when accountability used to be a given. It’s wonderful beyond words to see it being recognized again.

Sinclair can do what Sinclair wants. They can ask for whatever and not put Kimmel back....I don't care. Trump and FCC need to stay out of it.

They won't and I don't want them to. frick them. They didn't take their foot off of Trumps throat when they had him down. Trump and the FCC needs to take it as far as they can legally.

Lets repeal the first amendment to stick it to the dems!
If you wanna go after Jimmy Kimmel im sure they dig up some tax shite or something.
Having the government attempt to go after a citizen for saying mean things would be my less preferred option.

We are getting very close, if we aren't already there, to the "fire in a crowded theater" threshold with Kimmel IMO.
The country is on edge, we know the assassin being MAGA is factually untrue, and he still decides to claim him as such? Just unreal gaslighting.
I am concerned that standards we are setting now will be used against us in the future (and plainly don't live up to the standard of the 1st Amendment). But there also needs to be some accountability since decency is out the window, and there hasn't been in years.

The bottom line is, Jimmy didn’t bring in the money to justify his controversy. End of story.

The post i responded to said trump and the fcc should go after kimmel for what he said to the fullest ability of the law.
The First Amendment prohibits the government from censoring speech. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is explicitly barred from interfering with freedom of expression in broadcasting, though it does have narrow authority to regulate content concerning obscenity, indecency, and hoaxes.

I don't think you do either.

People act like these networks are free speech based. The people who signed the checks are the ones that decide what goes on the network. It’s their speech. Jimmy didn’t sign the checks. Everybody needs to get over it.
It’s just like at work we’re not allowed to say certain things. It’s the same shite guys.

You just exposed yourself. Satire is protected unless it constitutes defamation, incitement to imminent violence, or another unprotected category of speech, such as obscenity or fraud.

"satire"
frick off, you intellectually dishonest hack
He was being so satirical he told teh execs he was going to explain why what we heard him say didn't mean what it means. This might be your worst argument you've made, and that's saying something.

Yes, late night shows are political satire and present themselves as such.
