Basically. He gets bonuses for every world record so no sense in doing anything else. He's only competing with himself as nobody else is in his stratosphere.

The Soviet Olympic weight lifter Vasily Alekseyev, used to do this. He was the guy doing the clean and jerk (i think that's what it's called) in the intro to the old ABC Wide World of Sports promo. He was paid a bonus every time he broke the world record, so he intentionally would go up the minimum amount of weight each time to ensure he kept getting paid. I think Duplantis gets a bonus from the Swedish government every time he breaks the record. (Not saying he's copying the old Soviet guy)

Yes. He probably gets paid for every world record vault.

Buddy of mine pole vaulted in college (against Mondo’s dad), and he showed me a slow motion video of one of Mondo’s early WR vaults. He told me that Mondo could clear 5 more inches but that he would go up slowly to maximize bonuses.

Probably gets similar bonuses from his major sponsors.
