Still No Respect for SEC West

Even after LSU wins at Tenn (and blows out USC at home), MSU wins at UK and Ole Miss beats UK at home.
The ESPN announcers keep saying Florida and South Carolina are playing for the lead in the SEC. Seriously read the damn standings before you go on the air.

consider the source there. ESPN acutally thinking or reading before they go on the air is not going to happen.

They were talking about the SEC East. They said LSU would be the only west team in the tourney.
ESPN hates LSU

Early in the game they said specifically these two teams are playing for the top spot in the conference. I knew what they were talking about, but they were simply ignoring the west. Look with MSU picking up a win tonight don't rule both LSU and MSU getting in.
No this was not an ESPN/LSU Conspiracy thread. I was simply stating the West doesn't get credit, but it has several quality wins against the SEC East.

The two experts have to be reminded that LSU leads the SEC and then they say oh yea, LSU has a shot. What a bunch of crap, they have no clue.
Posted on 2/3/09 at 9:07 pm to ellessuuuu
at halftime, they said they only think 4 teams would get in from the SEC: Florida, Kentucky, SC, and Tenn............SERIOUSLY KENTUCKY OVER US? THEY CAN'T BEAT ANYONE IN THE SEC WEST

the sec as a whole right now isn't that good.

I could easily see our team sneaking into the tourney and making a run to the sweet sixteen. I just wish we had one big guy that was average. We would be great in my opinion if we had an average center and could move taz and CJ to the 3 and 4.

I'm not one to gripe about these types of things but they really neglected us there. Thanks to Rece calling them out.

i kinda agree with ya nothing great in all sec right now

I've heard plenty of LSU talk tonight

Nobody on this board is saying the SEC is a power basketball conference right now. And sure, the SEC West records don't look too good either.
But, regardless, LSU is atop the SEC with a big win at Tennesseee. That ESPN or much of anyother media doesn't pick that up is pretty amazing.
I'm not saying we are some power house; I'm just saying we are leading the SEC and what, they barely even mention it, at the end of a half-time show for a Florida-South Carolina game. For a South Carolina team we booted pretty bad.
That's lame. That's all it is. Lame a** s**t.
The conference leader gets no press, not even bad press at that.

Parity. The league is so young that everyone can just about beat everyone else. Miss State beating UK was NOT that big of an upset. UK's best players are underclassmen. State has played well in the SEC except for two games. Arkansas is in dead last in the west and could beat anyone on any given night - just bad luck. Tennessee was supposed to run away with the league, but losing Crews and Lofton is like losing Tasmin and Thornton. Florida is as average as they have been since the days of Matt Walsh and David Lee. Ole Miss is hit and miss. Auburn, as bad as they look on paper, can light it up if on (beat U Mass by 30 and nearly beat UK). Georgia and Vandy are probably the two worst teams in the league. Vandy lost so many key people from last season and UGA is just very, very young like Auburn was last year. Bama has been inconsistent, but beat us and took UK to the wire. South Carolina looked like a horrible team against LSU, but since, they have played like a top 25 club every single time out.
Joe Dean, Jr. said it best. It's not that the league is bad, but there is so much youth on every team. Tons of great players from last season are gone.

LSU has CJ, Thornton, and Temple who are all seniors. Taz is in his 4th year at LSU and still has one more year of eligibility at LSU.
Taz 5 star
CJ very solid guy playing out of position(did u
see his ESPN Top Play against Xavier)
Temple the guy that locked down Redick
Thornton juco first team all-america

LSU is one of the eldest teams in the league. And they'll be quite young next season.

The Tigers aren't great, but they're better than they get credit for. That's not hard to accomplish, they get no credit. The best thing is, they're obviously still improving. Right now, it's mostly just the LSU fans, and in particular, the basketball fans, noticing that. How much will they improve?
It'd be best if the Tigers keep getting little to no respect, it'll give them a chip on their shoulder and truthfully, they haven't accomplished all that much yet. But then again, if they get to the tournament, it'd be best if they weren't suddenly overwhelmed with the adulation. We've seen that before, sudden celbrity status never works out well for LSU teams. A little adulation prior to the tournament might help, with a humbling loss along the way.

Compared to the SEC East it doesn't blow. Where have you been the last two weeks. Ole Miss knocks off UK, then MSU travels to Lexington and knocks off UK, LSU goes into Knoxville and gives up the lead with 3 to go and still wins by 6. Oh yeah and LSU ran South Carolina out of the gym. Thats 3 of the top 4 teams in the East that dropped games to teams from the West (2 of those at home). If the West Blows then what does it say for UK, South Carolina and Tennessee (3 of the top 4 teams in th East).
The West may not have done much out of conference but head to head with the best teams in the East the West is holding its own.

bottom line is that we have been the most consistent in the league, what are they gonna do if LSU ends up with the best SEC record at the end of the season, give the SEC champ trophy to UF or UK?
