Heading offshore at eggmont key and heading south west at 5am. 85 miles out to search for the allusive gag grouper

Anyone else going tomorrow?

Short season of course

In Jacksonville this weekend for daughter soccer tournament.

Boat will be loaded next weekend. Heading out of John’s Pass. Pipeline C has has held good fish in the past so I’ll hit my normal numbers.

Good luck neighbor.

Probably 3 hours out and 3 hours in with the weather tomorrow. Leaving out of Tampa Bay and heading offshore near sarasota.

Boat has lots of comfort. Plus Starlink.

Long arse ride to feed the sharks

You can come fish with us for that same experience without nearly that long a boat ride. Had what appeared to be a nice 6-8# snapper right to the top Friday and a bull shark casually swam by and inhaled the whole fish. Just when I don’t think I’ll see one bigger, they one up me. Several more heads landed, and a couple that grabbed a snapper and we never checked them.

Some kind of measures need to be taken, though I still believe that the sharks and Flipper are chowing on our gamefish because so many pogies are being removed from the food chain.

and you’d be right. So the step that needs taking is to remove the pogie boats. Problem solved.

we are all too quick to blame the predators when the problem is the removal of prey

Well we finally got out yesterday. Just two of us fishing and it went pretty well. Weather was a little more nautical than forecasted but thats typical.

Only went out 50 miles here which it takes to get to good water. Caught 3 gag keepers, 3 red grouper keepers and a good many snapper( Red, mangs, Vermillion, yellow tail, etc). My buddy has a new Sportsman 28 and just had the SeaKeeper ride installed. What a huge upgrade. I dont really need it on my bay boat but now I want it. LOL. Any new sled I get will have it on there.

Ran around a few storms out there but never any issue with them. Great day in the Gulf of America and it looks like we are heading back out on Sunday if the weather doesnt change much.

Just basic bottom fishing. Cut bait, live pin fish and pig fish.

We caught a ton of reds. Just short of 20" and the sharks of course got their share. One of the biggest reds I had got taken just feet from the boat. I could not get him up fast enough

yea, it is. Our fishery off shore is very different from the north Florida area. We have the west coast peninsula and it is one big arse flat. Takes us a while to get access to deep water compared to the panhandle. Where you guys can sit over 1000's of wrecks and just pull up piles of fish, we are looking mostly for small changes/interruptions in the bottom that hold fish. We are one and two at a timing and you guys are loading the boat on one spot.

It is still very fun and we can be sucessful off shore. Its just very different than up north.

Going back tomorrow and maybe Monday. Gag season only has about a week left. Need to get some more.

Did not go this morning. Weather is wicked out the pass. Probably my only shot in this short season but they will start piling up around the bridges and docks this winter. Grats on the snowy and gags bro.
