Savage Axis II Flagship XP .308 Win

gonna pull the trigger (pun intended) and buy a Savage axis II .308 to be my primary deer hunting rifle. i’m on a budget and believe i’ve done a fair amount of research on this weapon but am always open to feedback. i’ll be hunting power line cuts in south Texas on 50 acres of private property. the scope that comes with it is a bushell 3-9x40 which i will eventually upgrade but feel is good enough to hunt this year with it. i wanted to stay under $450 but think this gun at $520 is worth it. the axis II is a hundred more then the standard axis. anyways, any reason i should or should not buy this would be appreciated. thanks

I’m happy with my savage .308. It’s killed probably 30 deer and that many pigs/javelinas and quite a few coyotes. If it misses it isn’t the gun or bullets fault.

My Savage Axis 308 had a problem with light strikes. The Axis II is probably better and most people seem to like their Savages

If you are on a budget there is probably not a better deal at that price point.
I had one that I bought for my daughter on sale for 200$ with a weaver scope and it shot right there with my tikka and Christensen arms.
The fit and finish is kind of cheap looking and feeling but that gun will never be the limiting factor in your ability to kill deer.

Does it have the accutrigger? It's legit. I know money is an issue but I'd get some better glass. So many options.

Bought my son an Axis .308 years ago. It’s a tight shooting piece of gear.

My son bought one of those combos a few years back. The Bushnell scope broke right after I got it zeroed in. The reticle just fell over in the scope. Bought him a Nikon 3-9x40.

Might look at the Ruger american Gen2s also I know people who have them and can shoot 3/4 groups. Very impressive

Congrats! The Axis is a solid gun and the 308 is a very capable deer hunting round. While the scope is not top notch, it should be serviceable until you get the extra money to upgrade. You should be in good shape when deer season rolls around. Keep us updated.
