This really bothers me because it feels performative like it feels like it’s for the media and the fanbase not actually for the players. I mean there is no way he actually thinks his players are actually getting motivated by that silly shite.
Kelly’s feeling the heat of the big game Brian reputation so he wants to be seen as doing “something” so even if he loses the game he can say “well I did all I could do.” In a way, it’s a form of preemptively throwing his players under the bus. Like they weren’t motivated enough. “I did all this stuff to get them up for the game but they just didn’t get up enough.”
It really bothers me because it shows he’s about covering his own arse and not actually about winning the game. I really really hope I’m wrong and I’m going to be rooting my arse of for him to win every game this season. But I can’t shake the feeling that despite everything Brian Kelly is just a frickin loser.

Coaches typically use this to get the offense/defense familiar with numbers of opposing players for presnap reads and checks. Im guessing that’s what this was for, at least I hope

I tend to agree with this but I could be wrong. To me, it reeks of desperation but then again we are pretty desperate at this point.
