I am looking for either some sugar maples or chinese pistache trees to plant in my front yard. I checked a few nurseries but none had them. I want something that is going to look great in the fall but is also quick growing.

Also, if anyone has any pros and cons with these trees, or even a better suggestion on what type of tree to get, please let me know.

give it a month at least before you plant. You want deciduous trees to be dormant for a better chance of success

I’m not familiar with sugar maple here but swamp red maple is easy to find and thrives in our climate. Other quick growers are river birch, drake elm, pond or bald cypress and willow oak

one more I seldom see mentioned is sycamore. I planted one in my yard from a seedling I dug up by the river and it’s a beautiful tree. It doesn’t grow as fast as the others but it is super healthy and vigorous. Also easy to find

I bought some maples from arbor day foundation a while back and they did fantastic. I think they are fairly cheap.

My fav nursery on the Northshore is Straughn's in Loranger.

Supposedly the biggest and best is called Westfarms Nursery in Folsom, but I've never been there.

I planted a summer red maple 4 years ago that is the healthiest and fastest growing of all the trees I've planted.

I bought a Chinese Pistache from the Garden Spot in Mandeville last fall.

A single 5 foot stick that looked awful but doing great. 10 foot now.
