Hey Drank! Pretty predictable outcome today. Best sprinter in the world with really no sprinters here. Duh. Pedersen might make some noise on some harder stages.

Suspect they won't know which way Jonas goes but he's also never particularly excited me as a racer

Whattup pack and vol. Yea The Peloton is a bit ho hum coming off the Tour. Especially since Pog decided not to race. Should still be a good Vuelta

Ciccone looked like he had it but no.

I audibly said “holy fck” when most of Visma hit the floor in the crash.

Haven't kept up. Who is favorite for this, Vingegaard?

One of those crashes on wet roads that you just can’t avoid. Remember my first tire slide

Are we going to see more protestors shutting down races in the future? Today was a disappointment. Pidcock and Jonas battling for a stage win and shut down at 3km to go with no winner declared.

Unfortunately, yes. It’s impossible to protect the course with multiple K. Politics aside, I’m starting to really resent these people screwing with cycling because it’s a easy mark.

Yeah-I don't care which side of the politics people are on. But cycling is one of the few sports where you can get up close and personal with the contestants due to the nature of the course and the inability to protect every bit of it, and the ability to inflict severe damage by one protestor getting onto the course in the finish area (or any stretch of the course).

And another protest shuts down a stage early.

I've always had an intense hatred for spectators who get in the road, crowd the course, try to take a selfie, etc. and cause troubles for the riders. The protesters have added a whole new level of dislike.
For typical spectators, I've long advocated laws that severely punish any negligent (like the selfie-takers in the road, or the owner of the dog that dragged a chair on course the other day) or intentional interference with a rider.
Not sure what the solution is for the organized protests. Pepper spray and German Shepherds would be fun, but it would just give them the press coverage they want.

La Protest a España
The protests have ruined 2 great stages, wish we had some of the old school riders who liked to throw hands

Nice to see Egan Bernal back on top, that guy went through hell with those injuries.
So this is the second stage that the protestors disrupted to the point of cancellation, but they also hacked the race and team radios on one stage, caused a few crashes in various stages, and in stage 5 actually stopped the Israel Premier Tech team for about 1 minute during the TTT.
I doubt the Spanish authorities even want to stop the protests at this point. The race organizers would, of course but you have Spanish politicians agreeing with the protestors and openly saying IPT should be excluded from the race. Doesn't seem to be much political will to put a stop to it.

That's the problem-the politicians, who should be helping to tamp this down as this is one of Spain's premier annual sporting events, are siding with the protesting. Spain, historically, rolls over on stuff like this. So it's really no surprise.
If the UCI had a sack, they would tell Spain no Vuelta next year unless protocols are put into place to prevent this. It's not an issue with protesting-protest all you want at the side of the course or in a designated spot after the finish line. Just don't cause rider safety issues or shut down the event.
Funny that we don't hear a peep from these protesters about Bahrain or UAE on human rights issues. But that's not the cause du jour. That's all I'll say about that.

I don't care what the cause is, the minute you block traffic I hate you and whatever it is your protesting about.
