They should have paid no more than a 6th rd pick.
If that wasn’t enough… then pass on him.
Did they give up Saints regular 4th rd pick; Which could be the Very 1st pick of the 4th round….
Or …..
Was it the Compensatory 4th rd pick at END of RD 4 ??

Saints were rebuilding in 2006 and traded for Scott Shanle, Scott Fujita and Mark Simoneaux to completely rebuild their linebacker corps in one offseason. They also picked up DT Hollis Thomas in a trade just before the season. Thomas was a starter for us that year. Yes, we had Brees, but we went to the NFC Championship game when “everyone” expected 5-7 wins at most.
The unofficial “free agency window” in the spring and the draft aren’t the only ways or times to build a roster.
As many have pointed out, 4th round picks are far from a sure thing for even the most-respected drafting teams. We traded a 4th for a cheap, young, sure thing who we have total control over for 3 years.

How is a guy turning 28 before the season ends being continually referred to as young?
Someone tried to argue he’ll play longer because he’s starting later, no he won’t. Your body isn’t the same at 32 whether you’re playing football or not.

I am AGAINST free agent players unless you are 2-3 players from a Super Bowl and need them to put you over the top.
Only sign those at THAT time !!!
