As part of the deal, the government won’t be on the board or play a major role in the company’s governance, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said in a CNBC interview earlier this week about the continuing conversations.

Intel has about $8 billion in grants from the Chips Act that could be converted to part of the 9.9% equity stake.

The company is losing about $1 billion a month and needs customers or deals for its chip design and manufacturing businesses to get back on track, industry analysts say.

I don’t know how to feel about this move. On one hand, I trust POTUS and I think it is good that the American government might get some benefit from moves like this. On the other hand, it reminds me of the bank bailouts and auto bailouts, and seems like it could be a slippery slope to socialism. I don’t know enough about the issue to form a strong opinion one way or another. What do yall think?

It’s only 10% and it’s not getting a seat on the board. How is that nationalizing the company? It’s still mostly owned by non US government entities.

If the United States issues a Grant - Loan for $8 Billion, the company should give up ownership.

Now, when or if the company pays off the Grant - Loan with interest, return the ownership.

It is business not personal.

So we just give grants away and never get anything in return because you’re afraid someone down the road will take it too far.

It is my Great Honor to report that the United States of America now fully owns and controls 10% of INTEL, a Great American Company that has an even more incredible future. I negotiated this Deal with Lip-Bu Tan, the Highly Respected Chief Executive Officer of the Company. The United States paid nothing for these Shares, and the Shares are now valued at approximately $11 Billion Dollars. This is a great Deal for America and, also, a great Deal for INTEL. Building leading edge Semiconductors and Chips, which is what INTEL does, is fundamental to the future of our Nation. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! Thank you for your attention to this matter

And instead of just giving tax dollars away, we are invested. Do this enough and the US taxpayer is getting a serious return on their money.

Because the government has picked the industry "winner". And changing corporate behavior doesn't require having a board seat. Just the mere threat of action changes industry behavior in many cases, even without the ownership stake.

Your argument seems to be it's OK to be a little bit socialist. How much socailism is too much for you?

Or perhaps, we should keep government from owing businesses.

Or maybe government should be giving money away to businesses. Just an idea.

The speed that MAGA has embraced Obama's economic agenda is impressive. From MMT, to unions, to corporate bailout via ownership--Obama is back!
