I’ve been getting into the game and have even gone to a couple of weekly tournaments in town. It’s quite a lot of fun and the games coming out now are pretty insane. Anyone else play?

No. My brother has some at his arcade but haven’t had chance to play em. It’s something I’ve been interested in.

You have any standout favorites?

The new sterns are hard to beat, Godzilla, King Kong, Jaws, Elvira etc. but I’m a big fan of a lot of the newer pinball machines from lots of companies. Pulp Fiction, Big Lebowski…and then there’s the older machines too. Demolition Man, Addams Family, the list goes on and on.

i'm somewhat of a wizard myself.

in all seriousness, no...however my 6 year old son loves them. There is a tabletop gaming store/hall that sells miniatures and board games and also hosts magic/dnd events. We found out that they also have a wing of the building with classic pinball machines. You pay $5 and get an hour of unlimited play. We took him there for his birthday and he had a ball (no pun intended)

One of my best friends has been runner up state champ in Arkansas quite a few years. It's kind of crazy watching him play, not to mention embarassing when you have next ball and flail on the machine for a minute after he played one ball for like 10 minutes. One of the things that I think is cool is that he travels a lot and always finds some pinball hall to visit when he's traveling.

There's a whole crazy subculture around them, though, with people having private warehouses around the State full of games where they end up playing a lot of their league championships.

oh absolutely. They've evolved now in live streaming these events as well. Foxcities pinball goes to each of these state, national, and world title locations to stream and commentate the games. It's a world of fun if you like competitive anything.

Lots of good memories of the 80s / 90s Williams pinball games like Addams Family, Twilight Zone, Space Shuttle, Taxi, Elvira And The Party Monsters, etc.

I do love those pins a lot. They are brutal, some don’t even have ball saves, but damn are they fun.

I love those but also have good memories of some other tables from the 90s like Lethal Weapon 3, Street Fighter 2, and Last Action Hero, all of which were near my campus in college.

I got to where I could regularly get free credits on them to where it would reset with the notice that too many credits were given out (once the percentage of replays hits a certain amount, it doesn’t give a replay and resets the minimum for a free credit).

Always a fun thing to do for sure. Play for an hour on a dollar. Those old Ballys/Williams were great. It’s a labor of love to keep them humming like new so when you find a pinball place that takes care of their pins, let them know they are doing it right. Here’s another of my favorites: Attack from Mars. Some of the best call outs of any pinball machine ever made.

I like Attack but I’m more used to the 3D remix version that came out in the early 2000s.

This, along with the smell of stale beer and cigarettes would be a killer start to a Friday night in the 80's.

Are they based out of the Appleton area? Scanned some of their social media accounts but none of them point out a location.

I think they are based out of Wisconsin. They travel around with their gear to capture all the major tournaments.

Keith Elwin is a great designer. Has machines are amazing. If you like that, check out Jaws.

Addams Family, Fun House, Star Wars, Star Trek TNG, Jurassic Park. Some of my favorites.

My dad has an old Little Chief machine that I've been playing since I was a kid.

This is one of my favorite videos showcasing the top players. You get to see all the tricks, post passing, stage flipping, etc. on display and it’s a really exciting finish. Amazing plays by all involved but what a finish!
