I have a 60+ year old rental property. The original insulation has settled and deteriorated over the years. Need to have the attic reinsulated.

Blown or Batts?
Thickness, R value?

Need local BR recs please
TIA

You'll probably get better recommendations on the Home/Garden Board.

With that said I would recommend blown fiberglass insulation and Koala insulation has done some work for me before which I was satisfied with.

Just got a quote from Koala here in Bham. Blown in for a 14 or 15” depth for $3800. Spray foam was $8500. Guy said the blown in would be about a 10% reduction in utility bills. Foam would be more around 30%.

I had a good experience with Platinum Insulation out of Denham Springs. Think the guys name was Kenny. Solid price, good communication, showed up when he said he would.

Recently bought a 60 year old house. Insulation was in the same shape as yours, in some places it was non existent.

Had Mr. Green Jeans come out and blow in fiberglass and do air sealing in the attic.

I recommend them.

ETA: I forget thickness but it went to R-49

Koala insulation

Had them come by for a quote on adding cellulose in a section of my crawlspace, instead they quoted me fiberglass for the entire crawlspace. I wouldn't trust them based on the simple fact that they ignored what I requested.

They did you a favor. Fiberglass would be preferred to cellulose in a crawlspace, if you're foregoing foam as an option. If the crawlspace isn't encapsulated with a dehu running, and your intent is to insulate the floor, I'd consider rockwool batts simply for the moisture wicking properties.

It’s $1.25/sq ft I believe.
