Think they’d still be able to rush the passer and stop the run just as good? I feel they’d be torched in the passing game, Mills (RIP) may would still be able to cover pretty well.

They would still dominate, but they would get flagged almost every series at least twice

Sam Mills would probably call half the plays that the offense was running out before the ball got snapped

Sam Mills would still be an elite MLBer.
Swilling would be an elite pass rusher.

I don’t know how Vaughn Johnson would do in today’s pass heavy game. I think he’d almost have to move to a down lineman position in today’s game. In the run heavy 80/90s, he was an amazing run stuffer. Just don’t know how he’d do today.

Jackson would be good, but he’d probably have to learn to drop back as well in pass coverage as well. But I think he’d be okay as a strong side backer.

Rickey Dropped back plenty during his career, he had 8 career ints.

As far as Vaughn Johnson, he was more athletically gifted than people give him credit for being. He has a 28 tackle game vs a passing team in the 49ers.

“None of us knew each other, but we all knew from Day 1 that we would be special. Vaughan, he was a knock your arse off and led by example type of leader. There was no better run stopper in the league ever but people forget what a freakish athlete he was. He was a 240-Lb man that could run a 4.4 40. Nobody liked getting hit by that twice!”

Look, I loved Sam Mills, but his glaring lack of height would be even more of a problem today. The position of tight end has arguably undergone the bihhest chanhes ovet the last 30 years. 6'6 giys whp run 4.5 40s are a dime a dozen now. Teams would be scheming this kond of mismatch each week. Running backs are heavirr amd faster now. For all of his toughness and football smarts, I just think that Dam woild be overmatched. Although, when someone has the heart of a lion like Sam did, he'd put up a helluva fight.
