We’ve now seen that Rattler and Haener are not the LONGTERM answer…….

Saints drafted Shough with a 2nd rd pick of the 2025 draft and made the considerable investment… now they must see what they have in the player.

This is Especially Important because….

should the Saints end-up with a Top 5 pick in the 2026 draft they will be in position to draft a top QB prospect and they need to see Shough play to DETERMINE whether they pursue a top college QB in the draft or if Shough is the longterm answer at QB…. and they use the top 5 pick on another position.

It just makes sense after the investment they’ve made.

Gotta bite the bullet and do this !!

You know, its fine that you disagree but it’s hard to see the logic in your choice based on what I just outlined above.

But it’s ok…Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

You start Shough when he is ready and deserving. That is the type of culture you want to build. Is he ready and deserving... getting pretty damn close to it...

I don't know that there is a QB on the roster who is ready and deserving. T7 when he is healthy would be the most ready and deserving, but that is not a long-term solution.

I'd bet the downvote is more related the the dead horse that keeps getting beat than disagreement with your take

They’re all gonna play this year

And if the Saints cut Haener and replace hin with a vet FA, he’ll probably play too

This is a throwaway season. Get used to it.

Pro coaches don’t jump to conclusions like this. KM knows that competition will yield the best quarterback in the long run. The odds are they all suck but we have to let it play out. They all should get plenty of opportunities. And if your theory is correct, it benefits Shough to ease into the starting role. If he really has starting potential, why throw him into the fire where he’s almost guaranteed to fail.

I know it’s a throwaway season as you stated above.
I think we all agree the Saints will probably win only about 4 games.

Personally, I think Haener and Rattler are career backups at best… so Shough is the only one we need to figure out.

Can Shough be a franchise QB ??

You need to play him to find out.
Wait ??
Wait for what ??
He’ll learn as he goes.

*Here is the Key No One Is Addressing :

In less than 12 months you might own the #1 Overall pick in the 2026 draft… and you can pick any player in college football you want. They should have a Top 5 pick at worst.

Let’s say there is a college QB that Moore feels is future franchise player that can re-establish an NFL franchise… and take you to SuperBowls.

Do you draft that college player not knowing what you have in Shough ??

For me….If you have that opportunity in the draft… you take it and draft the QB.

If you don’t know what you have in Shough at the time….that’s your organizations fault because you didn’t play him…. and you didn’t play him enough to assess him AFTER selecting him as your 2nd round pick in 2025.

Anyway… the Saints fan base will be screaming for another QB to be drafted after the Saints upcoming 4 win season.

I kind of agree with this, but not completely. Unless Rattler ends up starting and plays well enough to be our future starter, Shough HAS to play multiple games at some point in the season, whether he "deserves" them based on practice and preseason or not. The Saints have got to have at least an idea where they are at QB after this season.

I'm almost certain Ratt starts the season and barring a winning record Tyler comes in around game 4. Wouldn't doubt seeing all three start a game.
Still looking to see what qbs are cut on big cut day.

If Shough IS the longterm answer, we will not have a top 5 pick. More likely 12-16 range

With the QBs on the Saints’ roster, I have to agree with OP. If they think it might help Shough’s development to sit the first game or two, fine. But this is a developmental year, and we need to determine if an NFL starter is on the roster.

Colts drafted Peyton Manning at 1.1.

Rookie year happened.

Colts then drafted at 1.4 ended up with Edgerrin James.

Was Peyton not the long term answer cause they were top 5 draft pick again?

If Shough IS the answer ( as you say) …. then MAYBE you do pick 12-16 in the draft.

But…
the ONLY way to find out if he is the answer…is to PLAY him…..Start him over the long season.

That’s how Denver found out, last year, they have a future star in their 1st rd QB pick; he wasn’t great in beginning of the year but greatly improved over the season. Now they know what they have.

If Rattler and Haener start over the season ….we end up with maybe the #1 overall pick in the draft.

Then Saints select a QB in 1st rd of 2026 draft.

Ok.

BUT….
WHY did we burn a 2nd rd pick on Shough then chose not to start him for the season when you can see that Rattler and Haener are crap.

That’s a waste of a 2nd rd pick because all the practice time would THEN be given to the NEW 1st rd QB drafted in 2026.

Just play Shough and see what he can do over the entire season.

Is their growth ??
Is their potential ??

That’s the only thing that makes sense !
