Guys trip headed out Thursday for three rounds. Two at Copperhead and the other on the Island course. Anyone played recently/ever with any tips for us? 10 guys going. Handicaps range from 2-20. Thanks for any input.

Copperhead is brutal man.
Brutal.

I would suggest another track vs playing it twice.

We went in May of 2024 and the conditions of the course are not what I expected for a PGA tournament course. Greens were good though.

You have to hit great/solid shots continually or you get punished.

Played w a group of all single digits, one around a 3/4. We all felt is was one of the most difficult rounds we had ever played. I don’t know if it was as difficult as Whistling Straits or PGA West in La Quinta, but we all agreed it was way less enjoyable.

Probably because the conditioning and setting of the other courses FAR surpasses Copperhead.

Maybe you will like it, but I would temper your expectations.

On the plus side you should see some Osprey up close and they are cool.

We played Streamsong after Copperhead and the courses aren’t even worth mentioning in the same breath.

Let me know how you guys like it.
The 15 plus caps are gonna have a long day and lose balls. We had 8 guys walk off that round and to this day we all say F that course.

Haha.

Also-if you guys like cigars there is an absolutely amazing shop smokehouse that is really close by Innisbrook (we stayed on property). Let me see if I can track it down for you.

That sounds flat out horrible for the guys that are in the double digits. I’m one of the lower ones, and it sounds horrible to me.

Figured it would be a fun course and a challenge given it hosts the Valspar. One of the courses is punched or the greens are being renovated, so we could only play two of the three.

We are staying on property as well. A friend works at Innisbrook and we got a great deal for the weekend.

Any certain tee recommendations? We were planning on playing the white tees.

It’s a great track. Have to make sure you play the correct tees for your group. There is a TON of sand in play off the tee boxes. I did not think it was brutally hard, it’s just much more target golf then what you would expect for a course that long. Really need to play it a couple of times to figure out where to hit it. And the other courses at the resort are dog shite.

The Island is even harder than Copperhead. I thought Copperhead was great. We played it in December and it was in perfect condition. They overseed tees, fairways, and rough, so the guy who played it in May might've been dealing with the overseed dying out and the bermuda struggling to get going.

They're both tough golf courses, but neither are unfair or gimmicky imo. Just have to pick the right tees and hit the shots or you'll get penalized.

If you guys want to do a dinner at the steakhouse then get reservations, they were fully booked when we went.

Thanks! We have a buddy that works at Innisbrook. We have a reservation at the steakhouse Saturday night. We got an amazing deal with his connections, so we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go.

It may be worth it w good connections. We play the appropriate tees for our games.

You know how you play some munis and the lies are very helter skelter? Especially just off the fairways, you could be in dirt, mud, some patchy grass. It’s just very uneven which really added to difficulty.

We all felt like the best place to be was either on the green or in a greenside bunker.

I do think it would be a little better on a second play. But I will never go to Florida and play it again.

At the end of the day you guys will have fun on the trip. Just don’t go in thinking you will break 80. Our 3 hcp shot 94 and he wasn’t hitting the ball out of bounds.
